Valentines for Cute Card Thursday

Hello friends!  It’s Thursday already!  And you know what that means….It’s time for a new Cute Card Thursday challenge!  For this week’s challenge, we’d like to see your Valentine’s projects!  (A great way to get going on your love cards!)

Our sponsor this week is Odball Art Co. and I have used one of their images on my card for this challenge today:

vicki-cct567-valentines

This cute little fellow is called Valentine Giraffe and so I thought he’s be the perfect image for this challenge and he was so fun to color too!  I have used my Copic markers to color him with.  It went rather quickly and I knew I wanted this to be a bit simple because you never know if this one needs to be delivered to a male! *wink

For the hearts sprinkling down as well as the sentiment, I’ve used an older Simon Says Stamp set from my stash and stamped the hearts with a rose colored ink and then shifted the image slightly to do a “double generation” stamp over it.  The sentiment was stamped in black ink next to the giraffe and then I’ve added some stitch lines around the panel as well as around the “xo” papers with a black marker.

I then added the ribbon to the “xo” papers and then popped the giraffe image over some craft foam and mounted it over the papers which was then mounted onto an A2 sized top folding white card base.

vicki-cct567-valentines-close

Taking a closer look at the image, you can see how I’ve colored it in and I’ve added some white gel dots to his eyeballs and cheeks.

For a bit of shimmer, I took a clear glitter brush pen and went over the sprinkling hearts with it.  I then took some Nuvo White Blizzard glitter drops to add some extra sparkle to the heart dangling from his mouth.

vicki-cct567-valentines-flat

I think this is a great masculine style Valentine as it has the neutral color pallette with the pops of bright pink/rose for the hearts.  And just a touch of shimmer thrown in!

Please be sure to stop by the Cute Card Thursday Challenge blog to see what other Valentine creations may inspire you!  We look forward to seeing what you all come up with!

Thanks for dropping by today!!  See you tomorrow for several projects I will be sharing!  Stay tuned!!

Sweet Anniversary Wishes with Whimsy Stamps January Release!

Hello friends!  Hope you’re having a great week so far!  It is really cold in our area right now as we are experiencing a “Polar vortex” with a high of -11 degrees F and low of -23 degrees F without wind chill for tomorrow.  Brr!  Many schools in the area as well as city workers are taking the day off due to the severe cold weather.   Please stay warm and safe wherever you are!

Not sure if you saw that Whimsy Stamps has started carrying this new adorable line of digital stamps from CC Designs in their store.  Check out all of the January digital release by CLICKING HERE.  Here’s the card I’ve made today using one of those images:

vicki-pcaimeevalentino-jan29

I’ve used this super cute image called Aimee & Valentino for a special card that I’ve made for my parent’s 54th wedding anniversary.

I decided to print it out twice so that I could cut out the balloons and pop them up over the image.  I have used the following Copic markers to color it in:

  1.  reds on outfits, boots, hair clip and balloon – R37, R35, R32
  2. Pink on outfit and balloon – R85, R83, R81 (girl stripes on dress – E53, E51, E50)
  3. Boy’s outfit, boots and hair – C8, C5, C3, C1, C0, C00 (stripes on shirt – BG000)
  4. Girl’s hair – E27, E25, E23, E21
  5. Skin tones – E21, E11, E00, E000 (cheeks – R20)
  6. Grass/shadows – G24, G21, G20, E0000 (around image – BG000)
  7. I used metallic gel pens to color in the middle of hair clip, buttons and cheeks

I cut this image out with a stitched square die cut and then used a cloud stencil with Tumbled Glass distress ink and ink foam blending tool to add clouds behind the couple.

As mentioned above, I cut out the heart balloons on the second print out of the image and heat embossed the stamped numbers on them.  I used a stylist tool on the back of them to curve them in a bit and popped them up over the image with some foam dimensional dots.  I then added some shimmer over top of them with a Wink of Stella clear glitter brush pen.

vicki-pcaimeevalentino-jan29-upclose

Here’s a closer look at the coloring on the image.  You can see a bit of the shimmer over the balloons and where I’ve added some metallic color on the heart hair clip.  I took this image panel and layered it over a piece of gold mirror cardstock.

vicki-pcaimeevalentino-jan29-flat

I thought that the January released Hearts a Flutter digital papers were the perfect backdrop for this cute couple, so I printed the pink with white hearts one out and cut a piece out using the Whimsy Stamps Hand Stitched Nested Rectangle dies for that.  I found some coordinating card stock and gold heat embossed the sentiment from the WS Everyday Mini Sentiments clear stamp set and cut it out with a banner strip die.  I also placed it where I wanted it to go and used the Hand Stitched rectangle die again to create the stitch marks over it.

I took some gold ribbon and wrapped it around the heart design paper card front, placed the image panel over top and then layered on the sentiment banner with foam tape.  This was mounted over an A2 top folding white card base.  Lastly I added a gold bow and some gold sequins filled with some Stickles Tinsel glitter glue.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed my card and I hope the recepients enjoy as well! 🙂  Thanks so much for dropping by today!  See you soon!

It’s Critters at Cute Card Thursday!

Hello friends and happy Thursday!  We are getting ready to start the weekend and I’m ready to have some time to catch up on a few things!  How about you?  Do you have any plans for the weekend?

Today starts a new challenge over at Cute Card Thursday!  Yay!  The challenge for this week is probably a favorite of mine which is “critters“!  Looking forward to seeing all those critters in the gallery this week!  🙂

My project for today is another one of those that I had actually wanted to start last year, but of course it gets pushed aside for another day, so here’s the day I start!  When I went to a stamp convention this last Summer, I really enjoyed the vendor booth for Taylored Expressions and just fell in love with these grumpy critters:

vicki-cct566-critter calendar

LOL!  I plan on making myself this fun little calendar for my stamp room.  I also thought about making a couple more of them for some gifts too!  So here’s my start with them.  Really simple and fun little calendar cards to make up!  I have a die coming that will help to display all of the months which I will share later on.  So stayed tuned for up-coming Calendar months made with the Taylored Expressions Calendar Grumplings stamp set!

vicki-cct566-critter calendar-jan

So is this how we all feel when January rolls around?  LOL!

When I went to the stamp convention I picked up this package of the 2019 3×4 calendar cards that were pre-printed with a special little rectangle on top with a decorative background print on it.  This is where I’m using the spot to create my “calendar scenes”.  There are dies that you can get that fit these to help you create your designs.

So I took the unhappy/surprised kitty and colored him in with Copics and cut him out with the coordinating die.  I took the frame from the calendar scene die set to cut out a frame with black cardstock and then placed some ribbon behind it to make it appear like curtains. and then I had a speech bubble punch which I punched from white cardstock and stamped the sentiment over it and sponged around the edges with some gray ink.  I took some foam tape and popped the speech bubble up over the scene.  I mounted this card onto some coordinating colored cardstock.  I wanted to keep these smaller, but I could see this work for some really cute cards too!

vicki-cct566-critter calendar-feb

And here’s the February Calendar Critter with the grumpy love pig!! LOL!

I stamped, colored him in with Copics and a red gel pen for accents and cut him out with the coordinating die set.  I also took the frame die from the calendar scene die set and cut it out from some red glitter cardstock and attached it over the pink heart backround.

I then popped him up with foam tape and stamped the sentiment right next to him.  I took the heart sequins and glued them around the pig.  I used a gel pen to draw a heart around Valentine’s Day.  Lastly I layered this calendar onto a piece of coordinating pink cardstock.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my “Grumpy Calendar Critters” today and please be sure to stay tuned in for more months in the future!  Thanks so much for stopping in!

Mixed Media Wall Hanging for Sparkle N Sprinkle

Hello friends!  I’m back again to share a mixed media wall plaque that I’ve made with several Sparkle N Sprinkle products:

vicki-vaseofflowers-wallhanging-project3

It’s been a while since I’ve made any mixed media projects, so it was nice to be able to “get messy” and use some media products that I don’t pull out often enough!  (Please check the end of this post and/or for a full detailed tutorial on how I’ve made this project, please visit me over on the Sparkle N Sprinkle blog post here! – Thank you for your kind support!)

So I started out the image panel thinking I was going to make a card with it, but then it felt like it was too large, so I decided I was going to make a Vintage style wall plaque with it instead!  I had this plaque hanging around my room for about a year knowing that at some point I wanted to do something with it, so this felt like the opportunity I needed to get a project going.

vicki-vaseofflowers6

I’ve used a January release stamp set from Sparkle N Sprinkle called Vase of Flowers stamp set.  I colored it with Copic markers except for the pink flowers and buterflies.  I covered the flowers with the Pink Fizz glitter and the butterflies with the Canary flocking.  I cut out the image panel with the Tonic Loopy Lace Oval Die and added it to a piece of cardstock that was covered with the Super Adhesive Sheets.  I then covered the entire panel with the same Pink Fizz glitter and burnished into the background.

vicki-vaseofflowers7

Shown at a different angle, you can see allof the dimension and detail of the design.

I have also covered the flowers using some SNS Brushable Glue and brushing it over top in certain areas over the flowers and then I sprinkled some Diamond Dust glitter over top of them.

Again, if you want to see how I’ve completed the background of this plaque, visit me over on the SNS blog by CLICKING HERE.  Be sure to subscribe for updates on projects daily from the rest of the design team too!

I hope that you were inspired by my mixed media project today and I thank you so much for stopping in as I’m always happy to hear what you think!

Hello Cute Chicks!

Hello friends!  Err…should I say “Cute Chicks”!  🙂

I have some more Whimsy Stamps inspiration to share with you today using this sweet image by Crissy Armstrong called Penguin’s Cute Chicks.  Now it may look familiar to you and that’s because it was originally made as a rubber stamp, but starting with this month’s release it has been released in digital format!  So it’s great to now have both options available to you!

vicki-ws-penguincutechicks-jan22

I am a huge penguin fan and Crissy’s penguins are so fun to color!  I have colored this image with the following Copics (Click on the underlined numbers to purchase from Whimsy Stamps.)

  1.  Penguin Body, Beak, Feet, Cheeks:  C8, C5, C3, C1, C0 – YR18, YR15, YR12R00, R000
  2.  Penguin hat & scarf:  E89, E87, E84, E81
  3.  Chicks:  Y38, Y17, Y15, Y11 – Cheeks:  R00
  4. Chick blue & purple ribbons:  B39, B37, B34 – purple:  V17, V15, V12
  5. Egg shell and around image:  BG000
  6. Grass:  YG67, YG63, YG61

(More up-close details below!)

I have also used some fun digital papers from the January digital release called “Oh Boy” digital papers collection.  (You may remember the “Crateful of Kittens” card that I had previously done which was using these same papers.  I’ve used both the striped and solid papers for my card here.  At the top of the striped papers, I used the Whimsy Stamps Pierced Border Trio dies to cut a curvy border.  I cut another piece like that in black cardstock to layer behind it.

I took the WS Painted Sayings clear stamp set and stamped the greeting in the upper left corner of the image panel and I also used the splatter images from the set and stamped some black splatters over the solid colored digital papers.  Before attaching the striped panel to the solid background, I added some white ribbon with a bow and a black button with a bow twine through it.  I attached this to the solid panel and then attached all layers to a white 5″ square top folding card base.

vicki-ws-penguincutechicks-close

Here’s a closer view of the image with my coloring.  For around the edges of the image panel, I took a glue pen and sprinkled on some clear glitter for a bit of a sparkly touch around the design.  I layered this onto a black piece of cardstock and then added some craft foam behind it for a slight dimension and attached it to the card front.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my card today!  Thanks for stopping by!!  I’ll see you back again tomorrow for another really fun project I made!

Sympathy & Banish the Blues

Hello friends!  Hope you have enjoyed a nice weekend.  Unfortunately, I needed to make up a sympathy card and didn’t realize that I had run out of them, so I will need to make some up in the future so I can have them on hand and not have to worry about it when the time comes again.  I had a friend who recently passed and needed a card for her family, so I pulled out a set that I hadn’t used before until now:

vicki-su blue sympathy

This is an older set from last year’s Sale-a-Bration at Stampin’ Up! called “Heartfelt Blooms”.  I think it’s so pretty and since the lady who passed was a happy crafter, I felt good about making this tribute for her.  I will miss seeing you at lunches Penny, rest in peace my friend.

I stamped the floral image several times with a Copic friendly navy color ink over some cream colored cardstock and then colored in the images with my Copic markers.  I also went around the images with some markers and blended it all out around the design.

I then took some distress ink and the foam ink blending tool to soften the edges a bit and make it look a bit more Vintage.  I also stamped the sentiment with navy ink and die cut it along with some navy cardstock with a banner die.  I sponged around the edges of this as well.  I wrapped some linen thread several times around this panel and tied it off with a bow next to the banner.  I then attached it over an A2 sized top folding navy card base.

I created a matching envelope by stamping the image in navy ink over it as well.  Lastly finished off the design with some clear sequins.

vicki-su blue sympathy-close

Here’s a closer view of the coloring on the floral image I did as well as the sponged around the front panel and banner.  I thought all of the blue colors turned out really pretty and made a nice Vintage feel.

Challenges I’d like to enter for the above card:

  1.  A Bit More Time to Craft – #84 Anything Goes
  2. The Creative Crafters – Anything Goes
  3. Crafty Catz – Anything Goes with optional:  Blue, Green plus one other color (cream)

So on another {positive} note, I’d also like to remind you that there are still a couple of days left to play along with us over at the Cute Card Thursday Challenge this week!  The theme for this challenge is “Banish the Blues” which I felt like doing in my craft room and so I decided to make this “Fun-Loving” card:

vicki-bm-lovebugs

Now how happy do these cute honey bees look?!  They almost look like they’re dancing in the air!!  I don’t get to play very often with the Brutus Monroe collection that I have started to accumulate, but I’ve used items from this month’s “Love Bug” Inspiration Box for this card.

I’ve heat embossed the bees and colored them in with some of the Brutus Monroe Aqua Pigments which I’ve collected quite a few of as well! LOL!  I’ve used the paper from the kit and stamped the background and the edges of the bee panel with some SU! ink that happened to match up with it.  I then white heat embossed the sentiment from the same stamp set above the bee panel.  I sponged around the edges of this red panel with white ink and attached it to a side folding A2 sized card base.

vicki-bm-lovebugs-close

Here’s a closer look at the bees and how I’ve colored them.  Some of the BM Aqua Pigments are shimmery and I’ve used a couple of those colors too!  I’ve added some white dots on their cheeks as well as a few around the hearts.  I topped off their eye-balls with some glossy accents.  I’ve also stamped some more “xoxo”s on each end of this image border and layered it over a piece of black cardstock.  I took two strips of glitter washi tape from the kit and added it above and below the image panel area and then attached the bees over top but between the strips.  Lastly I’ve added a heart shaped sequins to the center of the white embossed heart “O” in the sentiment and the rest of the sequins from the kit randomly placed on the card.  I topped off the circle sequins with some Nuvo White Blizzard Glitter Drops.

Hope this helped to end my post on a happier note with a smile and I hope you will stop by the Cute Card Thursday Challenge Blog and check out the inspiration over there and play along with us!!

Thanks so much for checking in with me today!  I’ll see you again tomorrow for more crafty inspiration!!

Enjoy the Changes Life Brings

Hello friends!  Back with you today to share a card I’ve made using the January release stamp set from Sparkle N Sprinkle called Early Spring Nest!

vicki-earlyspringnest-cardep-project2

I had so much fun playing with this pretty Spring image and playing with some new embossing powders on this one!

To get the background, I’ve taken a piece of watercolor paper and sprinkled it with some Nuvo Blue Blitz Shimmer Powder and spritzed it with water to also move it around the paper until I got the look I was wanting for it.  I set it aside to work on the rest of my card until it was COMPLETELY dry.  After it dried, I took my Static Free Bag to rub over the area and prep for heat embossing.  I stamped the Crackle Background stamp (Really love the versatility of this image!) with VersaMark and heat set the image with the SNS Robin’s Egg embossing powder.  (Sounded like the perfect product to use for my card!)  I also used my corner chomper to round the corners on this panel.

For the scallop layer behind this panel as well as the layer behind the sentiment, I took my VersaMark ink pad and smeared on a layer around the edges and heat embossed them with the SNS Coffee embossing powder.  I also used this for the sentiment as well as the nest image, so this also works for a nice detailed embossing powder!   I made the fishtail banner layer before I did the embossing with my Tim Holtz 5″ scissors.  I took some craft foam and attached the front base panel to the embossed scalloped layer which was mounted onto a white A2 sized top folding card base.

vicki-earlyspringnest2

Here’s a closer look at the stamped Crackle background with the Robin’s Egg heat embossing over the watercolor background.  I just love the shimmer it has in it!  You can also see the Coffee heat embossed layers.  I love the pretty Copper sheen it has as well as the dark brown flecks in it!  You can also see how well it embossed the fine detailed stamped images too.

There are so many different things going on with the embossing powder on this design that you really need to capture all the different angles throughout the design to see it!

vicki-earlyspringnest1

For the coloring of the image, I just used some Clean Color Real Brush markers for it.  I like to heat emboss the images when I do this sort of coloring as it helps to keep the watercoloring inside the lines and acts as sort of a “well” so that the colors stay where you want them.

For the eggs inside the nest, I took a VersaMarker pen and colored them in with it.  Then I took the same Robin’s Egg embossing powder and heat set the eggs with it.  It really creates a fun and unique look with the blue tint and speckle flakes in it, plus it gives it a nice embossed shine for an “egg like” appearance!

After coloring in the image, I used my scissors to fussy cut it out and then added a couple of feathers from my stash and attached this image over the card front panel with some foam tape.  I finished off my design by adding a few random drops with some Nuvo Dazzling Blue Glitter Drops.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed my card today and thank you so much for stopping in!
