November AJ Page-Time

Hello friends and happy weekend!  Monday will be the first of December already!  Wow, time seems to be going so fast especially at the end of year!  This is exactly what my page was inspired by in this post!

Last Saturday of November brings us to the monthly “SMASH OUR STASH” Art Journaling.  I’ve collaborated with my crafty friend Carol (from Crafty-Stamper) to join in.  Here’s my AJ page with the NOVEMBER prompt of “TRADITIONS”: 

This is a little different type of style, but most of the time I just come up with whatever happens to pop into my head and hopefully with older items I have from my stash!

This may not seem like I’ve used the “traditions” prompt for this month, but if you look at the wording at the bottom of the pocket watch, It says “Sentimental Traditions”.  I was thinking of “old timey” type of things and the story about traditions on my page comes from my family going to our favorite place every fall for picking apples and now my children go every year as well, so it’s fun to know they’re still enjoying the same tradition we had with them.

For the background:  (size of Mixed Media paper is 5.5″ x 8.5″)  I ink blended with brushed corduroy oxide ink and spritzed with water to create the watermarks.  I stenciled the dots with fired brick oxide and went around the edges with black soot oxide.  I added some background paper to the other side that has the apple tree and then I added the paper doll couple over top and then added the “TIME” lettering that was die cut with black cardstock above them.  I also sponged around the edges of the apple tree paper with black soot oxide.  I added a gold metallic sticker line in the center between the paper and ink background.  

I took a really old Whimsy Stamp stamp set with the pocket watch stamp and stamped it with black ink and then used a pen to write the words:  “TIME has a way of showing us what matters.”  I then stamped a couple more of the pocket watch image in brushed corduroy oxide and then splattered some gold watercolor over right side of the page.

  3. Now that’s cool! Don’t hurt me but I automatically thought of the weird twins from the movie, The Shining, when I saw those kids! Bahahaha! This is a GREAT double spread, my friend, with fabulous texture and elements all over! I love it!

    1. Thank you Leslie! I’m laughing because I was thinking the same exact thing when I placed those paper dolls on there, but I wanted something there and I only had the creepy ones left to use! LOL But then again, there were some days my kids were about that happy when I made them mad! LOL

  8. I definitely saw the tradition in your layout before actually reading the words! It’s always fun to visit the orchard with the kids. This layout is perfect with the wonderful pops of red.   11. Vicki this is a beautiful rendition of traditions so lovely that your children go apple picking at the same place you did as a child too.. treasured times that will pass on through future generations. Thankyou for sharing your journal page and story with us @ Creative Artiste.

    1. Thank you Erika! We got a little over 6 inches and another 1-2 dropped the next day…then it’s supposed to be a high of 17 degrees tomorrow! BRRR!!! We were able to just get back before the big stuff hit us! Hope you are staying warm as I saw it from us and came straight over your way! Stay safe!

  15. That’s a nice page to remember that family tradition. I envy you guys up north where so much grows. I bet you also Christmas tree farms near you. I’ve been watermelon and strawberry picking but that’s it. We do have 2 farmer’s markets close by so that’s good. Stay warm this week, I read it’s gonna be bad, we are even in the 40’s tonight! EEK! xoxo

    1. Yes! We love the Fall over here for sure! Yes, we do have tree farms as well, but I just rather get artificial because real ones can be a hassle to deal with. We are going to have a high of 17 degrees tomorrow! You might not envy us that way! LOL Stay warm and safe!

  17. The blending of textures and colors creates such a striking atmosphere, and the way the pocket watch ties into the theme of traditions adds a meaningful touch.
