Paper Nest Dolls Guest Design Spot with Fishy Kisses!

Hello friends!  Happy Memorial Day and I hope you’ve been having a great weekend!  I would like to take a moment on this day to stop and give thank you and remembrance to all of the U.S.  service men and women who’ve served our country.  Your service will never be forgotten.

I am very excited to share a card I made with an image that Christine sent me to play with from the Paper Nest Dolls!  I’m sharing my card as a Guest Designer for her and I’m thrilled to be apart of it with her adorable images!

Vicki-PDMermaid Ellie Seahorse

I am using this CUTE image called Mermaid Ellie with Seahorse for my card. Isn’t that little seahorse she has her arm around adorable?!  She was so much fun to color too!

There is just so much shimmer/shine and sparkle on this…so I hope I can capture it all for you!  For the card, I’ve used the Tonic Basic Oval dies to cut her out with, but I’ve used the “Out of the Box” technique and cut out her tail before cutting the rest of the oval.  You can see in the photo below how I’ve slightly curled her tail upwards.

The background of the card was done with a stencil and ink blending.  I thought it was so fun as it reminded me of the scales!  I cut this piece out with a square stitched rectangle die and then layered a piece of aqua colored mirrored cardstock that I’ve also used as an oval layer behind the mermaid image as well as a strip at the bottom.

For the strip at the bottom, I’ve wrapped around some linen thread and tied a bow with it.  I’ve also wrapped around some ribbon to the layered stencil and mirror cardstock panels and then attached them to a 5″ square top folding card base.

I’ve taken a sentiment and heat embossed it with some “Mermaid Tail” EP and cut it out with a word banner die and sponged around the edges of it which I slipped under the first layer of the oval cut mermaid.  I’ve added some burlap and a few of the sea shell sequins behind the oval image panel and popped her up along with the sentiment banner with some foam tape.  Lastly, I added some half-back pearls randomly over the design.

Vicki-PDMermaid Ellie Seahorse-close

Here’s a closer view of the image and all of the shimmer and sparkle details.  I’ve colored her up in the following Copic markers:

  • hair – 100, W9, W7, W5, W3, W1
  • Mermaid shells – BG13, BG10 (covered with glitter brush pen)
  • Mermaid Tail – YG25, YG13, YG11, BG000 (pointillism with darkest and blender 0 and also green and white gel pens.  The fin at the end was also covered with a glitter brush pen.)
  • Mermaid Skin – E21, E11, E02, E00, E000, R20
  • Seahorse – V17, V15, V12, R11, R00, R000 (pointillism with V colors and blender 0)
  • Shading – BG000

Vicki-PDMermaid Ellie Seahorse-flat

It’s hard to see it from the other angles of the card, but it looks like the sentiment heat embossed with “Mermaid Tail” shows more of the shimmer in it as well as the ribbon.

More Calendar Months

Hello friends!  Yay!  Happy Friday!! 🙂

So I know that I haven’t been on here in a while to share calendar months that I’ve been working on and would you believe that I had actually had forgotten about continuing on with them?!   The first week in May came by and I went to look for the next calendar month to display….and it wasn’t made yet!!  LOL!

So here I am almost at the end of May with my calendar…it has been displayed for the last week though! 🙂

Vicki-Calendar Month May

It has most certainly been the “sneezin’ season” around where I live!  The wind blows that pollen everywhere!  I know how this little guy is feeling!!

Again, for all of these, I have used the Taylored Expressions 3×4 Calendar panels with the printed design at the top.  (of course mine are the 2019, but if you click on the link, it will take you to the 2020 calendars!)  I have slightly cut the edges off so that I could make a layered panel behind them and still keep the 3×4 size.

All images came from the Taylored Expressions Calendar Grumplings stamp set and coordinating dies.  I’ve used the sentiment from the set and made a banner with it that I’ve tucked underneath the elements from the Build-a-Scene Calendar dies.  I’ve colored all the critters with Copic markers.

Vicki-Calendar Month June

LOL!  This is my June month and I’ve decided to color this guy with spots!  the only thing different I did here was introduce the tree with the TE Build-a-Scene Trees dies.

Vicki-Calendar Month July

OMG!  I had so much fun with this guy!  It reminds me of the kids when, you know, you’re out celebrating for the Holiday and they want something, you say “no” and they’re grumpy and tired…so they have that frown face holding a sparkler!! LOL!  The little stars were cut with silver sparkle paper from the TE Build-a-Scene 5×7 Calendar dies and the frame was cut with blue sparkle paper from the TE Build-a-Scene Calendar 2 dies.  I die cut the sentiment out with a banner die from MFT.

Vicki-Calendar Month August

I’m thinking that when it gets August over my way, I will probably be feeling like this!  LOL!  I’ve used the TE Build-a-Scene Calendar dies for both the frame and the sun on this one.  I’ve covered the center of the sun with some glitter and the sentiment was cut out with the same banner die from MFT.

Vicki-Calendar Months-May-Aug

So now that I’m all “up to date” on my calendars, I will have some time to not only finish out the rest of this year, but hopefully when the next time comes to make another batch of these to finish out the year, I will also start making up the calendars for 2020 so that I’m finished and AHEAD of it before the year starts!!  Remind me about August to see if I’ve been making those calendars, will you?

I hope you’ve been enjoying seeing these calendar months progress as I’ve been making them…those grumplings really make me smile!

Thanks so much for dropping in today!  Have a great day!

Crafty Retreat Results

Hello friends!  I finally found the time to make a post and gather all of my photos together so that I can share a post with you from last week’s “Crafty Retreat” that I went to at my friend’s house.

So the “theme” for the crafty retreat was called “Hats off to Painting!”  The majority of the group likes to tole paint, but we all (including myself) like to try our hands at many other crafting avenues to try different products that we may not be familiar with…so there are some “mixed” projects today I’m sharing!  I had such fun during the entire 3 days!

7558

Here we are with our decorated hats on for a group photo!  Even little ‘Gizmo’ had his hat on, but not sure he was feeling the fun like the rest of us! LOL! (Unfortunately the host was taking the photo!)  We all had our Dick Blick aprons and shirts on which was very kindly donated for our “Painting Divas” group…they were VERY generous with the bag of goodies they gave us!  We had all 3 days worth of fun, classes and prizes!

20190501_141117

So, the reason for all of the fun crafty hats is that we were to take a hat and decorate it for a challenge.  Here is a photo of all of our hats.  There were some really fun and creative ideas as you can see!  One of the girls was quite tired from all of the crafting and decided to take a little siesta during the festivities!  LOL!  It was very cool that I was the winner voted for my created hat design.  (You can see on the table above and here’s a closer look below):

Vicki-Sreampunk Hat

I guess it’s a bit hard to see in the photo above of me wearing it, but I had hubby bring home one of his hard hats from work along with a pair of goggles and then I went to decorating it in “steampunk” style!  I had fun with it and enjoyed the process!

Vicki-Configuration Spell BookVicki-Configuration Spell Book open

Here is the altered “Potions and Spells” book that I taught for the class!  Last year at the “Crafty Retreat” they saw my “altered book” that I had previously made during my time as a Splitcoaststampers.com “Dirty Dozen” DT member and asked if I could teach how to make one for this year’s class.  So instead of the “altered book” idea, I had them all use a Tim Holtz Configuration Book.

20190501_132745

Here are some of the book covers all lined up that we were waiting on to dry before we were able to start painting them.  A couple of the book covers were left at the work table, but while those were drying, we worked on the inside of the book.

20190501_175745

Here’s another photo of me standing there holding one of the books and everyone was finished with their books looking at them at the end of class.  They seemed to really enjoy this messy project!  I just loved teaching these fun ladies too!

Vicki-Santa Gourd Ornament Class

This is from my mom’s class where she taught us this cute Santa ornament that we painted on a gourd.

Vicki-PenguinChill Class

The host lady is the one that taught this cute penguin class!  I adore penguins and I’m so happy that I took the time to finish this up when I got home!

I really hope that you’ve enjoyed all of these projects as much as I enjoyed creating them!  I also had another set of calendars that I finished, but I’ll share on another post on another day as this one is pretty full!!  LOL!

7590

One more thing to share is that we have a robin’s nest with one little blue egg inside.  We have a a Prairie Fire Crab Apple tree in our backyard full of pretty blooms and I guess the robin thought it was a nice place to make a nest…so we’ll wait and see if there is a baby bird coming soon!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all of you moms out there!  Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!  Thanks so much for stopping by and I’ll see you soon!!

Tie a Bow for Cute Card Thursday

Hello friends!  Here we are at another Thursday already!  Where does this time thing go?!  I’m trying to embrace Spring for as long as possible.

Today starts a new challenge over at Cute Card Thursday and this week we’d like to see your “Tie a Bow” creations!  I am a huge fan of ribbon and have WAY too much that I could never possibly use it all in my life time!  LOL!  How about you?  Do you have a big ribbon stash too?

Vicki-CCT581-ADU

So does it feel like we are at the salon?  She’s fashioning her “new do” which I think would be so fun to go have a spa day with mom or your favorite female person, right?!

The sponsor for this week’s challenge over at Cute Card Thursday is All Dressed Up Stamps and I have used this cute image from the store called “New Hair Do” for my card today.  Now although she does already have a bow tied to her hair, I thought this was a good opportunity for me to pull out some of my ribbon and actually tie a bow!  I thought this image would make for a wonderful feminine/Mother’s Day card too.

I started out by white heat embossing a piece of purple cardstock with a Simon Says Stamp Background stamp called Flower Explosion.  The sentiment on the black banner was also white heat embossed and placed over the design right above the “mom” sentiment that was die cut with silver mirror cardstock.  I layered the purple embossed panel over a piece of black cardstock.

I ran a piece of white organdy ribbon around the two layers and then added the oval cut image panels onto the card front.  I added the tied bow with the organdy ribbon off to the right side and then layered another bow I tied with some silver cord and then topped that with a pearl accent.  All of these layered were attached to a 5″ square white top folding card base.

Vicki-CCT581-ADU-close

Here’s a closer look at the coloring of the image.  I’ve used Copic markers to color her in with and brushed some Wink of Stella over her bow.  (Which is hard to see of course!)  I’ve also taken some tiny pearls and randomly added them to her hair.

The ovals were cut out with the Tonic Studios Basic Oval dies and then I also sponged some Tumbled Glass distress ink around the edges of the scallop image panel before attaching it to the black oval panel.

Vicki-CCT581-ADU-flat

By the way, I have chosen the color theme purple for my card today as it’s my favorite color.  I have actually used many of my favorite items for this card, so I hope you’ve enjoyed it too!  (Purple, ribbon, metallic, heat embossing, die cut sentiment, Copic coloring, pearls, florals, background stamps…I have too many favorites! LOL!)   Do you have lots of favorites too?

Thanks for dropping in!

Whimsy Stamps May Release + Anything Goes for Cute Card Thursday!

Hello friends!  Hope you are having a great week so far!

Today starts a brand new challenge over at Cute Card Thursday!  The theme for our challenge this week is an easy peasy “Anything Goes” theme!  Whimsy Stamps is also our sponsor this week and I have used one of the brand-new May digital releases for my card here:

Vicki-Penguin Prezzie-May2

This really SWEET penguin by Crissy Armstrong was previously released as a rubber stamp and now it’s available in digital format too!  I’ve used the Penguin Prezzie digital stamp on my card here along with some other Whimsy Stamps products!

The image panel was cut out with the Whimsy Stamps Notched Squares Dies Set and mounted over a piece of black cardstock.  I added some pearls in each corner.  For the tiny hearts and the “mom” sentiment at the bottom, I have used the Whimsy Stamps Mom’s Layered Flowers clear stamp set.  I stamped the tiny hearts around the penguin with some pink ink and the “mom” sentiment at the bottom over the pink gingham paper with black ink.  I also stamped the sentiment ‘for you’ with black ink on the image panel from the Whimsy Stamps Everyday Mini Sentiments clear stamp set.

I found some soft pink gingham paper to use and mounted it over another piece of black cardstock and another piece of gold cardstock too.  After adding the ‘mom’ sentiment, I took three strips of gold cardstock to add for accent pieces and then added some lace in the center strip that I wrapped around the card front panel.  I attached these layers onto a white 5×5 top folding card base.  The penguin image panel was popped up in the center with some foam tape.

Vicki-Penguin Prezzie-close-May2

Here’s a closer view of the coloring I’ve done on this image.  These penguins are so fun to color!  I have used the following Copic markers on my image:

  • penguin – C8, C5, C3, C1, blender, YR24, Y15, Y11
  • present – BG45, BG13, BG10
  • bow – R85, R83, R81, R00
  • ground shading – C1, E0000

Vicki-Penguin Prezzie-flat-May2

Although I think you could use this cute penguin image for a birthday or even Christmas, I thought since we are in the month of May, it would be a great card to send to mom!  All you need is to make it with a few feminine colors along with lace and pearls for accents!

Thanks so much for stopping in today and I appreciate your kind comments so much!

Under the Sea Shaker for Cute Card Thursday

Hello friends!  Welcome to another Thursday and a new challenge over at Cute Card Thursday this week!  The challenge for this week is Brads, Sequins/Gems.  So pull out your embellishments and have some fun creating!  Looking forward to seeing your creations using these items!

I decided that I was going to use all three items for my card today:

Vicki-CCT579-SU

I’ve used an “oldie but a goodie” Stampin’ Up! stamp set for my masculine shaker card here.  I’ve pulled out the “By the Tide” and “Hardwood” rubber stamp sets that I’ve had for a couple of years now.  (Not sure if they’re still available or not in the catalog as it’s been such a long time since I’ve bought any SU! products.)

I started by stamping the background “Hardwood” stamp with Basic Gray ink over a piece of Marina Mist cardstock and then blended some gray and black distress inks along the edges of it.  I mounted it with some Basic Gray cardstock.  I’ve taken some twine pieces and used it to fashion a “netting” accent from the side of the card onto the bottom front and then added some blue glitter around it for some fun texture and sparkle.

Vicki-CCT579-SU-close

For the shaker element of my card, I’ve used some circle dies to create the frames and that’s where I’ve attached the silver brads all around the edge.  I’ve used some more distress inks and stamp some more images from the stamp set for the inside of the shaker design.  I’ve added some sequins for the inside of the shaker window and placed it over the front of the card over the netting accent.  I stamped the images with Gray and Cajun ink pads and then colored them in and randomly placed them over the card design.

Vicki-CCT579-SU-flat

Lastly, I’ve taken some rhinestones and colored them with a Copic marker so that I could get the blue color for my design.

Thanks for dropping in!

Happy Spring With Beautiful Blooms

Hello friends!  Just popping by to wish you all a wonderful weekend and to share a “Happy Spring” card to make you smile:

Vicki-BM-Beautiful Blooms

So, for my card, I started with the glitter embossed panel from the kit and took the Sea Glass ink pad that came with the kit and ink blended over this panel.  I cut it down and then die cut a scallop piece of the purple cardstock from the kit and then attached it to an A2 sized top folding white piece of cardstock.

Although I really liked the sentiments from this stamp set, I wanted it to be Spring-like, so I took a sentiment from a different stamp set and stamped it with black ink over a piece of vellum and then clear heat embossed it.  I cut the strip into a banner and then ran it through my Xyron machine to get it sticky and attached to the bottom of the card front.

Lastly, I’ve attached the image with foam tape over the card front panel and then glued a bow made with some of the ribbon from the kit.  I then attached some purple-colored gems, also from the kit, randomly over the front.

Vicki-BM-Beautiful Blooms-close

Here’s a closer view of the watercolor I’ve done over this image.  First, I’ve heat embossed the image and used the Aqua Pigments to color it in.   I’ve slightly tilted it so you can see the pretty shimmer that these Aqua Pigments give to the look of it!  The regular colors don’t shimmer, but the metallic do shimmer beautifully! I then glued the bow of the wreath image and popped up the wreath to place on the front of the card.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my card today and I wish you all a very happy Easter!  Thanks so much for stopping in!  See you soon!

It’s Easter at Cute Card Thursday!

Yes!  Hello friends!  Easter IS on the way, isn’t it?!  I remember many Easters ago of hiding the eggs for the kids and then forgetting where I hid all of them myself, so I had to join in the Easter egg hunt too!  LOL!  Do you have any fun Easter memories?

So since it’s Thursday, it’s time for a fun new challenge at Cute Card Thursday!  Obviously, the theme this week is “Easter“!  We look forward to seeing what Easter makes you’re making this week, so come join us!  Here’s my card:

Vicki-CCT577-SSSEgg-stra Sweet Easter

I had a lot of fun creating this card!  I couldn’t help myself, I had to snatch up that Simon Says Stamp Limited Edition Egg-Stra Sweet Easter card kit. (Sorry, it’s sold out, but you can still purchase the stamp set, Background stamp, egg dies, and stencil separately from the kit though.  I have actually used all of those items on my card today too!

For the background, I took the jellybean background stamp and clear heat embossed it and then while I was cutting it out with a stitched rectangle die, I also took one of the eggs dies and cut out the center of the yellow card panel.  I cut a piece of white cardstock the same size as the yellow layer and then used the stencil and the Nuvo mousse that came in the kit and sponged it over the white panel.  I layered this piece along with a black heat embossed sentiment over vellum on a strip to wrap around the yellow panel along with a piece of black cord at the top.  I took some foam tape and mounted these pieces onto a white A2 sized top folding card base.  Lastly, I’ve added some clear sequins filled with some Nuvo glitter drops in the centers.

Vicki-CCT577-SSSEgg-stra Sweet Easter-close

Here’s a closer look at this sweet little Easter bunny that I’ve colored in with Copics.  I fussy cut it out and then decided to line up the bottom of it and cut it out with the same stitched die that I used on the yellow background panel.  I kept his ear out of it.

I took the glossy accents that also came in the card kit and covered the jellybeans with it.  I also took a couple of metallic gel pens to make some dots on a few of the Easter eggs and center of wheel.  Up close, you can see some of the shimmer from the Nuvo mousse in the white background egg that I stenciled on.

Vicki-CCT577-SSSEgg-stra Sweet Easter-flat

Lots of fun little details going on in this card, but that’s what I love about Easter…so many colorful and happy things going on!

Thanks so much for dropping in today!  I will see you soon!

It’s the April Anything Goes for Cute Card Thursday!

Hello friends!  This week has completely flown by me so very fast!!  I can’t believe how quickly it went and I’m thinking being outside in the warmer weather will make it go even quicker!  Summer will be here soon, right?!

Today is Thursday and also the first Thursday of the month, which means it’s time for our regular “Anything Goes” theme at Cute Card Thursday!  We are also sponsored by our regular monthly sponsor Whimsy Stamps!  So of course, you know I’m going to be using one of those for my creation today:

Vicki-CCT576-WSElfie

Isn’t she just a cutie?!  This newly released digital image is called Elfie from Whimsy Stamps.  I’ve been starting to see a few lady bugs here and there around my area, but I actually don’t like it when they are everywhere!  Otherwise, I can take them on a card and think they’re so cute!

After coloring her up, I cut her out with a stitched circle die and layered another circle with black cardstock behind her.  I also cut out the Whimsy Stamps Friend Word die set with black cardstock and set it aside to work on the rest of my card.

I pulled out this embossing folder with lady bugs (by Darice) and embossed a piece of red cardstock with it.  I took some white ink to lightly go over it to highlight the texture a bit.  I layered this piece onto a piece of black and then layered these over a white A2 sized top folding card base.  The circle image was place towards the right of the card and then I just cut off the excess circle with scissors.

I stamped the “hello” from the Whimsy Stamps Painted Sayings clear stamp set with black ink next to the image.  The “friend” die cut piece was glued at the bottom of the card.  I also took the WS Quick Strips die set to cut out a couple of stitched banners from some shimmer paper and added them to the side of the circle.  Lastly, I’ve put the black gingham ribbon bow over the banner strips and added the lady bugs and sequins to the design.  I filled the sequins with some Nuvo White Blizzard Glitter Drops.

Vicki-CCT576-WSElfie-close

Here’s a closer look at the coloring of this cutie.  I’ve used some Copic markers to color her in and then I’ve used a Wink of Stella Clear Glitter pen to add some shimmer over her wings and the wings on the butterfly.  Here’s the list of Copics I’ve used:

  • Hat, skirt, shoes and ladybug – R39, R37, R35, R32, C8, C5, C3
  • Shirt, leaves – G24, G21, G20
  • Hair – E49, E47, E44, E43
  • Skin – E21, E13, E00, E000, R20

Vicki-CCT576-WSElfie-flat

I think there are so many different ways you could color up this image, but I saw her holding this little ladybug and so I just went with that theme when coloring.  Hope you’ve enjoyed my card today and got inspired!

2 Crafty Critter Crazies – You are my Happy

Hello friends!!  Happy April Fool’s Day! 🙂

Well, there’s “no fooling” here today as I bring you a post to share the creation, I’ve made for a new challenge over at the 2 Crafty Critter Crazies Challenge Blog!  Since it’s the first of April, we have a new challenge starting with the “Anything Goes + critter” theme in mind!  Hope you will join us with your critter creations!

We are being sponsored by Digi Doodle Studios and this is the card I made for the challenge this month:

Vicki-2CCC-DigiDoodle-Mia

Our sponsor was kind enough to share this very sweet image called Mia which I’ve used for my card today.  This is my first experience with these images, and I must say they have some really cute ones in their store, so hop on over and check them out!

I’ve colored her up with Copic markers including drawing extended lines for the grass and coloring it up all the way across and down.  I cut it out with a cross stitched rectangle die and then used a sun ray stencil to ink some yellow behind her by taping off the grass edge, so I didn’t get any on that part.  I then stamped the sentiment in black ink over top of that.

To continue on with the yellow color theme I’ve got going on, I cut out a piece of yellow glitter cardstock that was cut out with a scallop rectangle die (retired from Lawn Fawn) and attached it to the back of the image panel.  I took some plaid papers for the bottom portion of the A2 white top folding card base and then attached some yellow grosgrain ribbon across the top and then attached the image panel and then added a yellow ribbon bow along the edge.  Lastly, I finished it out with some yellow rhinestone crystals.

Vicki-2CCC-DigiDoodle-Mia-close

Here’s a closer look at the coloring I’ve done on the image.  I took a black gel pen to color in the eyeball’s circles.  I wasn’t sure how to go about coloring the eyes, but this is the way that made the most sense to me.  I also went around the edges of the butterfly with the black gel pen.  I took a glitter brush pen and went over the liquid in her cup.

Vicki-2CCC-DigiDoodle-Mia-flat

I have to add that this image really got me thinking about past memories with my sweet little Mocca and how we would go out on nice Spring days like this.  She certainly was always “my happy” for sure and I still miss her like crazy.  I’m sure any of you that have lost pets understand what I’m saying.   It’s great to have the memories we’ve shared after all this time!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I appreciate it so much!
