Guest Design Spot For Retro Rubber Challenge and Playing Tic-Tac-Toe!

Hello there friends!  I hope that you’ve had a great weekend and found some enjoyable moments for yourself!  I had a nice and cozy weekend with my hubby!

Today, I’m thrilled to share my post for the Retro Rubber Challenge Blog as I’ve been asked to do a guest design spot for their challenge!  Retro Rubber is known for their challenges in which they challenge you to pull out those neglected older stamps from your stash and use them!  (They ask that you use a stamp that is at least 1 year or older to enter).  For this particular challenge, they’e asking you to follow along with a fun Tic-Tac-Toe board as a reference for your project:

RRCB 127

For my card, I was going for a diagonal direction one way, but it ended up fitting with several different directions on this board!  LOL!  I just had fun playing I think:

(My card below utilizes the top row across, and diagonally in both directions!) Squares used for my card are:  green, twine, pattern paper, die cut or punch, sympathy and nature.

Isn’t this such a pretty floral stamp?!  Hydrangeas are pretty much my fave all time flower!  The colors amaze me and I have a line of them in my backyard along my fence and look forward to seeing them bloom every year!  I take photos of them too!

Well I have this container sitting on a shelf in my stamp room where this particular stamp and die set is just “staring at me” awaiting for me to pull it out!  I didn’t realize that it was actually a 3 year old set until I pulled it out, but do you remember this Mondo Hydrangea from Ellen Hutson by Julie E?  Fell in love with it immediately, purchased it and think I may have used it one time!  I was excited about pulling it out to make my card for today as it’s one that I really love!  🙂

I started by heat embossing the image with some Brutus Monroe Gilded EP and then used my Clean Color Real Brush markers and a water brush pen to blend out the colors over the images.  I then used the Mondo Hydrangea coordinating dies to cut out all of the images.  I also took some vanilla cardstock to die cut the top border with the MFT Stitched Scallop Basic Edges die as well as cut it out along with the green pattern papers with the MFT A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX die.  These layers were attached over an A2 sized vanillia top folding card base.

I’ve used a sentiment from the Whimsy Stamps Furever in Our Hearts stamp set and heat embossed that over that vanilla die cut panel as well. (Adorable pet sympathy set to have on hand!)

The flowers were popped up over the design with foam tape, but before I attached the large hydrangea to the card, I took some metallic gold twine and tied a bow around the stem.  Lastly, I added some clear confetti sequins.

Here’s a closer look at the watercolor I’ve done over the flower.  I don’t do this very often, but it’s always satisfying when I play around with it!  At first I thought it would be intimidating to color, but it’s really not.  I just added layers of watercolor as I wanted it to look.  You can really see where the EP shines on this!

I had thought about adding some glitter over it, but wanted to keep it soft since it’s a sympathy card.

It seems that I hardly ever have a sympathy card on hand when I need one, so this will be a great one to have on stand by for my collection.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed my card today and have been inspired in some way!  Please be sure to stop on over at the Retro Rubber Challenge Blog to check out the wonderful inspiration from design team and play along with us!  We can’t wait to see what older stamps you have in your stash too!

Thanks for stopping by today and I’ll see you soon!

Sparkles for Cute Card Thursday

Hello friends!  Today starts a new challenge for Cute Card Thursday!  The theme for this week’s challenge is “Sparkles“.  Usually when I think of sparkles, I usually think of Christmas or snow, but this time I went in a different direction for a reason…

Vicki-CCT605

Unfortunately, I needed a sympathy type of card this last weekened and it seems that I’m always making one as I need them instead of making several up at one time so that they’re ready and on hand when the time comes.

This is an older stamp set from Stampin’ Up! that I got a few years back during their Sale-a-bration time and it was a free set called “Heartfelt Blooms“.  I actually really love the floral image and how detailed the image is so that you don’t have to color it if you don’t want to.  It has been my “go-to” lately when I need something quickly.

I made it monochromatic green with the Old Olive color and Vanillia cardstock.  The “sparkle” is that beautiful glitter paper behind the strip and sentiment.  The sentiment was cut from oval dies and popped up with foam tape.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my simple card with sparkles today and please be sure to join us this week with your sparkly creations over a Cute Card Thursday!  Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Thanks for dropping in and I’ll see you soon my friends!

Cute Card Thursday is Square

Hello friends!  It’s “Hip to be Square”, right?!  That’s what the theme of this week’s new challenge is over at Cute Card Thursday!  So please hop on over and check out the inspiration and play along with us!  Here’s the card I’ve made for the challenge:

Vicki-CCT583-square

What better card to make than one for a crafty friend! 🙂   I’ve used a past Simon Says Stamp card kit from February 2018 for this one.  I thought that I would carry the “square” theme throughout the design. – It’s great to pull out past kits and have a play with them!

The stamp set is called SSS Crafty Friends (Still available) and I’ve randomly stamped some of the images on a vanilla colored cardstock and then cut out each one with a stitched square die cut.  I’ve also used the same die to cut out a square piece of decorative paper contained in the kit which also has a colorful square pattern on it.

For the paint pallete image as well as the tube of paint panels, I took some of the watercolor provided in the kit and added it for some color with a water brush.  I took some twine and wrapped it around the top left panel with the hearts and sentiment and then placed the bow over top.  I then added the scissors wood veneer over top which was also included in the kit.  The turquoise colored cardstock base and squared layered panels also came from the kit as well.

Here’s an even closer look at the different squared panels .  You can better see the watercolor over the panels as well as the turquoise colored Nuvo Glitter Drops that I’ve added to the paint tube on the bottom panel.

Whimsy Critters Everywhere!

Hello friends!  Hope you are having a wonderful week so far!  I have been busy in my craft room trying to prepare for a class next week along with trying to help my son pack and move out of state…so my plate has been a bit full lately.  I do have a couple of really fun critter creations that I’ve made using some Whimsy Stamps products today:

If you don’t remember, Whimsy Stamps has come out with a couple of really adorable clear stamp sets to help promote their “Adopt Don’t Shop” campaign with $1 of the sale from each stamp sold going to the Gulf Coast Humane Society.  (You can also find and click on the badge on the sidebar of this blog any time as well for information.)Vicki-WS-ADSKitties-close-April24

Now, normally I am a “dog fan”, but I know many many many of my blog friends and several others are huge cat fans as well!  I have also been requested to make up some cat friendly cards too!  So, I thought this would be such a great opportunity to make one!  I’ve used the adorable Adopt Don’t Shop CATS clear stamp set for this one.

Vicki-WS-ADSKitties-flat-April24

I have used a kraft colored A2 sized top folding card base and stamped the little paw print from the stamp set with the same color around the edges.  I also took the humorous sentiment from the set and white heat embossed it over a piece of espresso cardstock and cut a banner strip from it.  This same color of cardstock was used as a layer behind the kitty image panel that I’ve cut out with the WS Hand Stitched Nested Rectangles die.  I covered up the bottom portion of this panel with some plaid papers.  I then wrapped some twine around the middle of it and tied a bow which I have attached a wood veneer heart in the middle.

Vicki-WS-I'veGotYourBack

Here’s another card I had actually made and gave to my dad as he’s been going through some health issues.  Thought it might help to bring a smile his way.

Vicki-WS-I'veGotYourBack-flatHere’s a pop quizz….if you’ve known Whimsy Stamps for a while, does this particular image look familiar to you?  It’s a VERY old one and also one of the very first rubber stamp sets that Whimsy Stamps sold!  I believe mine is dated 2009!  I wanted to keep it as I’ve been apart of this company off and on since it started! 🙂  Really cool to still have it.  Obviously it’s not available for purchase, but they did offer it as a freebie during their “Adopt Don’t Shop” party event last month.  The paw prints along the edges were also used from an older stamp set from Whimsy Stamps as well.  (You can see a portion of it on the right side of the photo above.)Vicki-WS-I'veGotYourBack1

Both of these images were colored with Copics which you can also purchase from Whimsy Stamps.  CLICK HERE.

The sentiment came from the same stamp set and was white heat embossed and cut out with the WS Quick Strips Die set.  I cut around the pup’s tail and then used a rectangle die to cut the rest of themage out and then layered onto a black piece of cardstock cut from a scallop rectangle die.  I layered the paw print piece, another piece of black cardstock and the image panel onto a white top folding A2 sized card base.  Lastly, I’ve added a few black enamel dots and even gave their eyes some shine with glossy accents.

Please click on the links above hightlighted to view or purchase any Whimsy Stamps Products.  Thanks so much for dropping in today!  Hope you’ve enjoyed my critter cards!  I’ll be back again tomorrow with a different kind of critter! 🙂
