Art Journal Inspiration-Advice from the Sun

Hello friends!  Back to share more inspiration for this month’s Art Journal Journey challenge theme of “LIGHT/KEEPING IT LIGHT“.  I’m hosting this month’s theme and I’ve really enjoyed seeing everyone’s interpretations with it!  Looking forward to seeing even more!

For the last few days over my way, we actually got to enjoy a few walks outdoors as it has been unusually warm and with some sunshine…finally!  So of course I’m going to go out and enjoy it while it is around!  This inspired my page today:

Now, I’m not sure if the sun gives advice, but if so, I’m thinking there might be a few of these to consider!  It’s hard to read, but inside the circle, I handwrote “Keep it light – Rise to the Occasion – Look on the Bright side – Shine – Keep a Sunny Disposition – Be Brilliant – Set sights high – Renew energy”  I’ve also handwritten with a gold paint pen on the black under the sun ” Light a Path wherever you go“.

For the background:  Started with a 5.5″x8.5″ piece of heavyweight cardstock that was pre-punched at the top with my Zutter machine.  I took a baby wipe and covered the top half of the page with yellow paint.  I then used a “Light Ray” stencil and blended a few yellow and orange ink colors over the painted background.  I also took some gold metallic paint and splattered over the background with a fan brush.  A die cut a circle to place in the center.  The clouds and “SUN” letters were cut out with dies.  I used my printer for the lettering on the clouds and some gold mirror cardstock for the “SUN” letters.

The bottom half of the page is all papers.  I started with a black piece of cardstock sized to fit under the sun rays and then die cut several different green colored pattern papers to create hills layered on top of the black.  (Happy to use some more papers!)  I also found a book page strip and cut it for a “path” in the middle of the hills.  I sponged the edges with some black ink and that’s when the gold handwriting was done.

Thanks so much for stopping in today!  I’m glad you’re here and I hope this has inspired you in some way!

  • I’ve had a few people that have sent me a message from my contact page on my blog.  If you have contacted me, I’ve replied, but not sure if they’ve been received.  Please check your spam folder to see if it’s there as I haven’t heard back from a couple of people.  Thank you!

Challenge Up Your Life-Fun in the Sun

Happy June 1st friends!  This month will bring us into the Summer months which means it’s time for all of those fun outdoor activities!  I’m also getting ready for lots of things going on this month including my son’s wedding!  So I know I’ll be busy!  How about you?

This is my last time to be joining the “Challenge Up Your Life” challenge blog as a guest designer.  I’ve had a great time with them as a guest for the past three challenges and appreciate being asked!  Today their new monthly challenge for June is “Fun in the Sun“.  Hope you can share your lovely creations with us this month!  (Check out the challenge blog for details and inspiration!)  And here’s my take on this theme:

What could be more fun than a cute little fairy sipping a drink floating on a lily pad?!  Love those shades too!

There happened to be a good sale on a few digital stamps from LOTV recently and so I snatched a few and this was one of them that I fell in love with.  This one is called Water Lily, of course.  (The sentiment also came from the same company.)  She looked like she was having some “fun in the sun” for sure, so I colored her up with my Copic markers and die cut the panel out with a stitched rectangle die.  I’ve also used a scalloped stitched die to cut out a piece of pink cardstock to go with some of the colors in the image.

For the background papers, I’ve found some great *yellow rainbow paper from Lawn Fawn and then I used a *sun die from My Favorite Things and cut out with some yellow glitter cardstock. (*These items have retired) I took a wave die from Lawn Fawn and cut out a strip from vellum and used my blue marker to add some color towards the top of the waves.  To attach the strip, I wrapped it around the layers and glued it from behind.  I then added the ribbon with the bow and attached these layers to an A2 top folding white card base.

Here’s a closer look at the image with the coloring I’ve done.  I’ve used a gold gel pen to color in her head band and then a silver one to color in the little “dots” on the ends of her glasses.  I used a glitter brush pen over her sunglass lenses as well as her wings.

I finished the card off with a few colorful sequins.

So does that look like something you’d be having some “Fun in the Sun” with?!  I know I sure would!😎

I sure hope to see you playing along with us this month with your creations!  I also hope that you’ve enjoyed my inspiration as guest designer for these challenges the last few months.  Thanks for your support friends!

I have the gorgeous Sunshine Daisies digital set for my design here by printing the image along with the sentiment that came with the set on a piece of Bristol watercolor paper.  I remember hubby brightening up my day a while back with some very pretty colorful rainbow of daisy flowers he brought home, so I based my colors that way.

I’ve used my watercolor markers and water brush to color the image with and then I took some yellow sparkle AquaPigment along with some Cream Grey Aquapigment from Brutus Monroe to splatter over top of the design before I cut it out with a Wonky Stitch rectangle die from MFT.

I layered this panel over an A2 top folding Soft Suede card base and finished it off with some clear sparkle sequins that I added some yellow Stickles to the centers.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my watercolor rainbow daisies today!  Thank you for stopping in to check my post today!  See you tomorrow!

Guest Designing for Digi Doodle!

Hello friends!  I’m back today to share some fun news with you!!!!

I’m very excited to finally be able to share with you that I’m guest designing for

Digi Doodle Stamps!

Today, I’m sharing my first card for them with this really adorable image:

Vicki-DDLovesMeNot-June7

I have used the Loves Me Loves Me Not digital stamp to create my card.

What I had in mind when making this card was all of that crazy rain we were having this past month and how it seemed to never end.  I also loved the flowers she was holding because my daisies came up in my back yard and they really make me happy seeing them bloom.  So I combined this image with some rainfall in the background and took away the petals from the image to make it appear as if she’s holding out her hand in the rain!  🙂  Hubby has been taking extra great care of me while all of this rain was happening around us and I think this would be a special card for someone who always seems to bring out that happy sunshine no matter the weather!  (His favorite color is blue!)  Wink wink

Here’s a closer view of the coloring I’ve done on her with Copics.  For the background, I’ve taken a white panel and stamped some rain drops from another stamp set in my stash.  I fussy cut out my colored image and attached her over top of that rain panel.  I took some Nuvo Glitter Drops and added them over the rain drops in the background behind her.  I also white heat embossed the sentiment (From MFT) and cut it out with a banner die and slipped that under her foot when placing it on my card.

It’s hard to tell in the photo, but I’ve covered her bow and top of her hair with a glitter pen to make it look like she’s been wet in the rain.

For the rest of my card, I’ve added the raindrop background light blue stitched scallop card panel over a dark blue layer and attached some pink ribbon around them.  I’ve added the bow to the side and then attached a yellow enamel heart over that.  These panels were mounted over an A2 sized white top folding card base.

Lastly, I’ve added the image panel and mounted it over the yellow scalloped panel and another piece of dark blue cardstock that was attached with foam tape.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed my card today and it brought you a smile!  Thank you so much for stopping by with me today!  I will be having another really super fun post to share with you tomorrow, be sure to stop by!

2 Crafty Critter Crazies – You are my Happy

Hello friends!!  Happy April Fool’s Day! 🙂

Well, there’s “no fooling” here today as I bring you a post to share the creation, I’ve made for a new challenge over at the 2 Crafty Critter Crazies Challenge Blog!  Since it’s the first of April, we have a new challenge starting with the “Anything Goes + critter” theme in mind!  Hope you will join us with your critter creations!

We are being sponsored by Digi Doodle Studios and this is the card I made for the challenge this month:

Our sponsor was kind enough to share this very sweet image called Mia which I’ve used for my card today.  This is my first experience with these images, and I must say they have some really cute ones in their store, so hop on over and check them out!

I’ve colored her up with Copic markers including drawing extended lines for the grass and coloring it up all the way across and down.  I cut it out with a cross stitched rectangle die and then used a sun ray stencil to ink some yellow behind her by taping off the grass edge, so I didn’t get any on that part.  I then stamped the sentiment in black ink over top of that.

To continue on with the yellow color theme I’ve got going on, I cut out a piece of yellow glitter cardstock that was cut out with a scallop rectangle die (retired from Lawn Fawn) and attached it to the back of the image panel.  I took some plaid papers for the bottom portion of the A2 white top folding card base and then attached some yellow grosgrain ribbon across the top and then attached the image panel and then added a yellow ribbon bow along the edge.  Lastly, I finished it out with some yellow rhinestone crystals.

Here’s a closer look at the coloring I’ve done on the image.  I took a black gel pen to color in the eyeball’s circles.  I wasn’t sure how to go about coloring the eyes, but this is the way that made the most sense to me.  I also went around the edges of the butterfly with the black gel pen.  I took a glitter brush pen and went over the liquid in her cup.

I have to add that this image really got me thinking about past memories with my sweet little Mocca and how we would go out on nice Spring days like this.  She certainly was always “my happy” for sure and I still miss her like crazy.  I’m sure any of you that have lost pets understand what I’m saying.   It’s great to have the memories we’ve shared after all this time!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I appreciate it so much!
