Anything Goes at Cute Card Thursday with Holiday Wishes

Hello friends!  I hope you’re having a great week so far!  I’m trying to enjoy the warmer temps while I still am able to before it starts getting too cold out!  I wish I wasn’t feeling achy either, so hopefully that will improve too!

Today starts a new challenge for Cute Card Thursday and this week is our monthly “Anything Goes” challenge!  We’re sponsored by Whimsy Stamps and of course you know I’m using one of those images for my card today:

Vicki-WS-CCT607

How sweet is this one!  This digital stamp is by Sylvia Zet called Wintry Fairy from Whimsy Stamps.  Really love coloring up her sweet images!

For the background white layer, it’s hard to see, but I have used a snowfall embossing folder over it.  I also took a couple of the Whimsy Stamps Christmas Fun digital papers, printed them out and cut some sections for my card layout.  I layered them with some brushed gold cardstock and put them over the white embossed layer.  The piece at the bottom also has some gold ribbon wrapped around it that I added before attaching to the white layer.  These layers were mounted over a piece of red 5″ square top folding card base.

I also white heat embossed the sentiment from the Whimsy Stamps Holiday Mini Sentiments clear stamp set and then cut it out with the Whimsy Stamps Quick Strips die set.  I cut it twice so that I could get the length that I wanted and then glued it over the bottom of the layered image panel.

I then added a gold ribbon bow with some gold thread nested underneath a snowflake button that I covered with a rhinestone.  I also attached some white poinsettia flowers from my stash.

Vicki-WS-CCT607-close

Here’s a closer view of the image and how I’ve got her colored up with Copics.

I used a white gel pen for the bird’s cheeks and the berries as well as places on her coat.  You can see that I also took a gold gel pen and added details to her coat as well as her wings.  I then covered her wings and the flowers in her hair with a glitter brush pen.

For the snow t the bottom, I took a glue pen and loose clear glitter over top.

I used a square die cut to cut her out with and layered onto a piece of brushed gold cardstock and then another layer of red cardstock that was cut with a scallop square die.

Sending Snail Mail Hugs

Hello friends!  Yippee!  It’s finally “officially” Fall now! (According to the calendar anyway.) We are very slowly starting to get lower temps at least in the evening time anyway.  I’ve gotten out my Fall decorations and I’m ready!  How about you?

Today I have a very sweet image from Whimsy Stamps to share with you:

Vicki-WSLoveSlowMuch-Sept24

Awe!  I wouldn’t normally hug a snail, but I must say, this one is SUCH a cutie don’t you think?  This digital image is called “Love You Slow Much” from Whimsy Stamps-Sylvia Zet’s Wee Stamps Collection which was previously released as a rubber cling stamp.  So now you can have the option of choosing the digital or the rubber versions!

Of course, with Fall having started, I was really inspired to create with this cutie in some orange, yellow and tan toned colors!  With the exception of that blue bow tie on the snail, I’ve colored it differently as I think that makes him really stand out especially for dispensing hugs…or perhaps receiving them! 🙂

I’ve cut out the image with a stitched circle die and then die cut another larger circle in the orange color to mat behind that.  I’ve taken a piece of decorative paper from my stash with the wording and added some stitch marks along the edge of it with a black marker and then mounted it to a piece of white cardstock.  I wrapped some white organdy ribbon around these two pieces and mounted it onto an orange 5″ square top folding card base.

I took another piece of orange cardstock and die cut a tag out from an older Whimsy Stamps die that I have and then I stamped the “hugs” sentiment from the Whimsy Stamps Everyday Mini Sentiments clear stamp set towards the bottom of the tag and added it to the bow on the ribbon.  Lastly, I took some flowers and attached them around the card design.

Vicki-WSLoveSlowMuch-Sept24-close

Here’s a closer look at the coloring I’ve done on this image and used the following Copic markers:

  • Snail Body:  W7, W5, W3, W1, R00
  • Snail Shell:  E35, E33, E31, E30
  • Snail Bow Tie:  B26, B24, B21
  • Fairy’s Dress, Hair Flowers, Shoes, Wings:  YR07, YR04, YR02, BG000, C7, C5, C3
  • Fairy’s Hair & Skin:  E47, E44, E42, E41, E21, E11, E02, E00, E000, R20
  • I used BG000 and E0000 for around image and shadows
  • I’ve also used a gold gel pen for the center of the flowers in her hair and over the tiny marks behind her wings.  I’ve used a white gel pen for highlights in the Fairy’s cheeks as well as highlights on the snail’s shell.  I took a glue pen over her wings and added some clear glitter over them.
  • I’ve also used a Copic marker (unsure of color) to color a rhinestone for the center of the orange flowers.

Brand New Images from Digi Doodle Studios + Video!

Hello friends!  Happy Friday!  I’m happy for the weekend to get here, how about you?!  The weather has started to cool down slightly and it’s so nice to have that air conditioning turned off for a change!

Today I’m super excited to share with you some really fun and adorable new image set that Digi Doodle Studios has come out with from the brand new “Pairables” Collection!  The set that I’m sharing today is adorable and so fun to mix and match images with!  Check out the two cards I made with it:

Vicki-DDSWizardPairables-video

I absolutely had so much fun creating a little scene with the images and then printing them out for coloring and making cards with!    All of the images that I’ve used here come from the new Digi Doodle Studios Charming Enchanters Wizard Pairables Digital Stamp Set and I believe that I’ve probably used most of the images from the set on these two cards.

Vicki-DDSWizardPairables-boy

For this particular card, I’ve used my computer to arrange the stars from the wizard’s wand and the sentiment how I want them placed and then printed it out twice.  One I printed on Copic blending card and another image printed out on Neenah Solar White cardstock so that I can do the ink blended background on it.

Vicki-DDSWizardPairables-boy-close

Here’s a closer view of the coloring details on the wizard.  You can see that he has a bit of a “glow” about him.  So after I colored him in with my Copic markers, I decided that I could use a yellow color pencil to add just a bit of glow to certain parts of the image.  I’ve then used gel pens to color in other detailed portions of the image and a white gel pen for the stars in the background as well.  I’ve tried to capture a little bit of that stunning shimmer for the background, but of course it doesn’t show up as great as it is in real life!

He was fussy cut out and placed over the ink blended background that I’ve made.

Since my last video on the ink blending, I’ve had a few more questions about it, so I thought I’d share a more in-depth look into it.  To see a video of how I’ve created the background on this “wizard” card, I’ve made a video to show in detail how I’ve done it with a few tips and tricks along the way.   So check it out below or watch it on You Tube by CLICKING HERE.

I hope that this helps a little more on explaining how I achieved the look for ink blending backgrounds.  I know that I’ve had people ask me to do a video on another background I’ve made on another card, so perhaps I will share another video on that later.

If you do have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment here or on You Tube or contact me and let me know!  If you have other suggestions, I’d always love to hear that too!

Vicki-DDSWizardPairables-girl

Here’s the other card that I’ve made using the same Charming Enchanters Wizard Pairables Digital Stamp Set.  Again, I’ve arranged and sized the images how I wanted them on my computer, printed it out just the same as above and fussy cut out all of the colored images to place over my background.

I’ve mounted the image panel over a piece of purple cardstock and then placed it over a top folding 5″ square black card base.  I’ve used a piece of ribbon to run behind the layered image panel and then added some fun decorative metal corners on it.

For this card on the background, I didn’t distress it with water, I just left it ink blended.

Vicki-DDSWizardPairables-girl-close

Here’s an up-close look at the coloring I’ve done on the image.  You can see again that I’ve used my gel pens to color in the tiny details like the stars on her hat, the bubbles from her cauldron, the bookmarker and the tiny nail on the wall.

To get the glow on the images, I’ve taken a green colored pencil and added it in the places that I thought her green magic potion would glow from.

Thanks so much for stopping in and hanging out with me today!  See you soon!

Oceans of Love for Digi Doodle Studios

Hello again my friends!  I’m back to share this card I made using this adorable image from Digi Doodle Studios:

Vicki-DDSNixie-Aug20

Isn’t she adorable with her little underwater crab friend?!  This is the Nixie Mermaid digital stamp from the Digi Doodles Studios “Under the Sea” collection.  I thought she was so cute and I actually had her colored up before I ended up hurting myself and had to leave.  I finished out the card when I got better.

I have also used some fun digital papers and a sentiment that work well with this particular image.  The pretty pink patterned papers you see in the background come from the Digi Doodle Studios Summer Breeze Card Making Paper collection.  The sentiment came from the Digi Doodle Studios Mermaid Sentiments set.  I printed out the sentiment and cut it out with a ticket die, sponged around the edges with the turquoise ink color and layered it over the same turquoise colored cardstock I’ve used throughout my layout.

The layout idea came from a sketch challenge that I’m entering for below this post.  I have several layer panels including the fun turquoise sparkly paper that I’ve used that was cut with a wave border die and then sponged with some white ink.  I added some pearls to each corner of the image panel, wrapped some white organdy ribbon around the card front base, tied a bow and added a silver bow where I have attached some silver string and a starfish charm to it.  The entire card measures 5.5″ square.

Vicki-DDSNixie-Aug20-close

Here’s a closer view of the coloring that I’ve done on this mermaid image.  Mainly colored with Copic markers, but I’ve used a gel pen to color the sprigs next to the flower in her hair and the bracelets around her wrists.  I took a glitter brush pen and covered her entire fish body and the bubbles in the water with.  (Of course it looks so shimmery in person!)  I then took some glossy accents and covered the little crabs eyeballs with and then some liquid pearls to dab a dot over the pearl inside the oyster.  This mermaid image panel was popped up with foam tape over the card front.

Vicki-DDSNixie-Aug20-flat

I hope you’ve enjoyed my underwater mermaid card today!

Thanks so much for stopping in today!  I’ll be back tomorrow with something fun!

Add a Quote For Cute Card Thursday

Hello friends!  It’s Thursday and time again for a new challenge over at the Cute Card Thursday Blog!  The theme for this week’s challenge is to “Add a Quote” to your project!  I happen to love quotes and find them very inspirational to help lift my spirits and I think it’s a wonderful type of card to send to someone who might need a little lift.  So here’s the card I created for the challenge:

Vicki-CCT595-BMQuote

There’s always something magical about a night sky especially with some soft glowing lights hanging up in your backyard!

Starting with the background, I took some watercolor paper and the Night Shift Aqua Pigments along with some sprayed water and some acetate to move around the watercolor and mix them together to create the “night” look I wanted for the background.  I then took some circle stencils that I made myself with some circle dies and white Ink with a sponge to create the “bokeh effect” over the background in the upper portion of the design.  Then I white heat embossed with white EP using an image from the stamp set.  I also heat set the quote at the bottom.  I also added some “splatter” at the top of the card with some watered down Pearl Aqua Pigment and a brush.  I then colored in some of the open stars with it. I’ve used some Brown Aqua Pigment to color in the branch too.  I used some yellow chalk to make the “lights” around the branch glow and then covered them some glitter.  Then I took some TINY star confetti and glued them around the branch area for more sparkle.

It’s hard to photograph all of that shimmer from the Night Shift Aqua Pigments and sparkle that’s all over this card, so I thought I would share it in motion:

I want to keep replaying so that I can see that shimmer in the background!

Vicki-CCT595-BMQuote-close

Here’s a closer look at the quote I’ve used in case you couldn’t read it.   “It is important to remember that we all have magic inside of us.” – JK Rowling  … Love that!

Vicki-CCT595-BMQuote-flat

You might be able to see a little bit of that shimmer on the background here if you look at the left lower portion of the card.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my card today and I appreciate you stopping in!

  1.  CCEE Stampers – Embossing wet/dry CCEE1932
  2. Crazy 4 Challenges – C4C497 Inspiration from a Book (Harry Potter)

Sending Smiles Mermaid Style

Hello friends!  Well it feels nice to get back into the swing of things here again!  I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the awesome welcome back I recieved from you guys!  Wish I could reach out through the screen and give you all a big hug!  🙂

Today is August 1st AND it’s on a Thursday too, so I wanted to share the card I made for the Whimsy Stamps August Digital new release as well as a brand new Cute Card Thursday Challenge too!!  Whimsy Stamps is our sponsor this week and it’s an easy “Anything Goes“, so please be sure to stop by the blog to see the wonderful inspiration from the rest of the design team and play along with us!!  We look forward to seeing what you’re working on!

Vicki-WSGoldie-Aug1

Oh aren’t these Sylvia Zet images just as cute as can be?!  I so enjoyed coloring her up!  (See the close up photo and details below.)  This is the DIGITAL version of  “Goldie” just released from Whimsy Stamps this month.  You can still also purchase the rubber cling stamp, but now it’s nice to be able to have the option to choose either one!

Since her name is “Goldie“, I had to use the orangish color palette for her!  When looking at the image, I immediately saw “bubbles”, so I thought it would be fun to make a circle easel card design with her!  This actually turned out to be a “non-traditional” circle easel card with the circled image going askew from the main area…which makes it seem more like several bubbles underwater!

I have cut several different sizes of circles, one for the main circle card base and several others with some old SU! bokeh looking papers from my stash.  I used a stitched scallop circle die set to cut out the layers behind the circles.  I sponged all circles with some blue ink for more depth.  I’ve added a strip of blue glitter cardstock on the main card front layer as well as some ribbon to attach to the front.  I arranged the circles where I wanted them and added some foam tape here and there to pop up the layers.

To hold up the card front, the inside of the easel card has another strip of that blue glitter cardstock and I stamped an anchor image over one of the circle panels using an older Whimsy Stamps clear set.  I used some foam tape to pop that up so that the front card panel would prop up.

I’ve taken the Whimsy Stamps Everyday Mini Sentiments stamp set to stamp the sentiment under the image panel with black ink.  For the accents on the card, I’ve used some clear acrylic bubbles randomly and glued them in places.  For the fish, it was a wood veneer from my stash that I heat embossed with some cool orange metallic embossing powder.

Vicki-WSGoldie-Aug1-side

Here you can see the details from the side view of the easel design and how it’s propped up with that anchor circle holding the front card panel in place.  to mail this card, you just unfold it and lay it flat as shown in the last photo below.

Vicki-WSGoldie-Aug1-close

Here’s a closer look at this really sweet image.  Below are the list of Copics I’ve used to color her in with:

  • Fins, flowers, Bubbles – Y38, Y35, Y32, BG000
  • Hair – C8, C5, C3, C1
  • Skin – E21, E11, E02, E00, E000, R20
  • Snail – W5, W3, W1, E33, E31, R20

Wink of Stella used for mermaid body, clear glitter and 2-way glue pen used for the bubbles.  I used a black gel pen to dot the center of flowers.

Vicki-WSGoldie-Aug1-front

Here’s what the folded and closed circle card looks like.  She will not quite fit into a regular A2 sized envelope because I arranged the circles differently, but a nice 5×5 size would work great.  I do have an envelope creator which is handy for those odd shaped designs that I can custom make.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my card today!

Wee Snippet & Mystic for Whimsy Stamps

Hello friends!  I hope you are having a wonderful week so far!  Thank you for all of your kind comments and wishes from my posts last week!  I really appreciate it so much!

Today I have a creation to share with you using a wonderful magical/mystical image from Whimsy Stamps:

Vicki-WeeSnippetMystic-June11

I have used this gorgeous image called Wee Snippet & Mystic by Crissy Armstrong.  This was previously released as a rubber stamp, but this month it has become available in digital format too!

I sort of let the colors of the card pull together after I had colored in the image and then I went from there.  I thought that this image would look nice with a woodgrain theme, so I’ve also taken some of the Whimsy Stamps Rustic Wood and Brick digi papers collection and cut a section and layered it with some purple cardstock for behind the image panel.  I had some pretty green colored woodgrain papers with flowers on it from my stash and used that for the background of the card design which was mounted over an A2 sized top folding card base.  The white woodgrain panel has some metallic purple ribbon wrapped around it that I’ve attached to the background of the card.

I’ve used a die to cut some edging accents for the sides of the image panel with the same color of cardstock as the background layer.  I popped this up over the card design with some craft foam.  I then added a stitched banner piece at the top right of the card design that hung over the image panel and then I have die cut some flowers from the Whimsy Stamps No-See All Seasons Tree Die set, sponged some ink around the edges and added them to the design.  I took some Purple Nuvo Crystal Drops and added a dot to the center of each one.  I’ve also taken a sentiment from an older Whimsy Stamps set and stamped it in black in the bottom corner of the card.

Vicki-WeeSnippetMystic-June11-close

Here’s a closer view of the coloring on the image.  I’ve used the Copic markers listed below to color with and then used a few gel pens to add details.  I took a glue pen and went over the horn on the unicorn as well as along the edges of the die cut image panel and sprinkled on some clear glitter.  Before attaching the glitter along the edges of the image panel, I used an ink foam blending tool and some Wilted Violet distress ink over it.

  • Wee Snippet’s outfit/flower and Mystic’s saddle/reins/horn – V17, V15, V12, YG13, YG11, BG10, BG000 (gel pens for dotted accents)
  • Wee Snippet’s hair – Y11, Y15, Y17, E31
  • Wee Snippet’s skin/eyes – E000, E00, E11, E21, R20, R00 BG45
  • Mystic’s mane/tail – E49, E47, E44, E43
  • Mystic’s body/eyes – C3, C1, R11, R00, E25 (eyes)
  • Shadowing – C1, C0

Vicki-WeeSnippetMystic-June11-flat

I tried to incorporate everything that I thought would bring out the “magical” essence of this image from the several layers with the paper, the glitter and metallic ribbon too.  I hope you’ve enjoyed my card today and I really appreciate you stopping by!  I’ll see you again soon!

Paper Nest Dolls Guest Design Spot with Fishy Kisses!

Hello friends!  Happy Memorial Day and I hope you’ve been having a great weekend!  I would like to take a moment on this day to stop and give thank you and remembrance to all of the U.S.  service men and women who’ve served our country.  Your service will never be forgotten.

I am very excited to share a card I made with an image that Christine sent me to play with from the Paper Nest Dolls!  I’m sharing my card as a Guest Designer for her and I’m thrilled to be apart of it with her adorable images!

Vicki-PDMermaid Ellie Seahorse

I am using this CUTE image called Mermaid Ellie with Seahorse for my card. Isn’t that little seahorse she has her arm around adorable?!  She was so much fun to color too!

There is just so much shimmer/shine and sparkle on this…so I hope I can capture it all for you!  For the card, I’ve used the Tonic Basic Oval dies to cut her out with, but I’ve used the “Out of the Box” technique and cut out her tail before cutting the rest of the oval.  You can see in the photo below how I’ve slightly curled her tail upwards.

The background of the card was done with a stencil and ink blending.  I thought it was so fun as it reminded me of the scales!  I cut this piece out with a square stitched rectangle die and then layered a piece of aqua colored mirrored cardstock that I’ve also used as an oval layer behind the mermaid image as well as a strip at the bottom.

For the strip at the bottom, I’ve wrapped around some linen thread and tied a bow with it.  I’ve also wrapped around some ribbon to the layered stencil and mirror cardstock panels and then attached them to a 5″ square top folding card base.

I’ve taken a sentiment and heat embossed it with some “Mermaid Tail” EP and cut it out with a word banner die and sponged around the edges of it which I slipped under the first layer of the oval cut mermaid.  I’ve added some burlap and a few of the sea shell sequins behind the oval image panel and popped her up along with the sentiment banner with some foam tape.  Lastly, I added some half-back pearls randomly over the design.

Vicki-PDMermaid Ellie Seahorse-close

Here’s a closer view of the image and all of the shimmer and sparkle details.  I’ve colored her up in the following Copic markers:

  • hair – 100, W9, W7, W5, W3, W1
  • Mermaid shells – BG13, BG10 (covered with glitter brush pen)
  • Mermaid Tail – YG25, YG13, YG11, BG000 (pointillism with darkest and blender 0 and also green and white gel pens.  The fin at the end was also covered with a glitter brush pen.)
  • Mermaid Skin – E21, E11, E02, E00, E000, R20
  • Seahorse – V17, V15, V12, R11, R00, R000 (pointillism with V colors and blender 0)
  • Shading – BG000

Vicki-PDMermaid Ellie Seahorse-flat

It’s hard to see it from the other angles of the card, but it looks like the sentiment heat embossed with “Mermaid Tail” shows more of the shimmer in it as well as the ribbon.

Fairy Princess Bunny With a Pocket!

Hello friends!  Hope you have enjoyed your weekend.  Yay!  We are finally getting some decent weather to be outside in!  It’s been rainy and chilly for a while, so it’s been nice to see some sun the last few days!

Today I have this really sweet image to share from Whimsy Stamps May Digital release and a fun extra added element with it!

Vicki-PC Fairy Princess Bunny Tag

I have made a tag using this really sweet Pollycraft image from Whimsy Stamps called Fairy Princess Bunny.  Isn’t she so sweet?!  I found some pretty papers to go with her and placed it over a purchased kraft colored tag that I sponged some white ink around the edges.

After placing the papers where I wanted them and trimming it down, I also attached a lace trim on each end of the papers over the tag.  The papers also had a bunch of sentiments included in the pack, so I added the circle sentiment to the tag and then die cut a kraft piece to layer behind it.  I also added some flowers and the ribbon at the top and then finished it off with some clear sequins.

Vicki-PC Fairy Princess Bunny Tag-close

Here’s a closer view of the coloring I’ve done on this cutie.  I’ve used Copic Markers to color her in with using the following markers:

  • Dress, shirt, shoes, socks – B37, B34, B32, B01, B00, B000
  • Bunny, bunny ears – R11, R00, R000, C3, C1, C0
  • Wings – R00, R000, E000, BG000
  • Hair – YR30, E41, E43, E44, V95
  • Skin – E000, E00, E11, E21, R20, R00
  • Grass – G24, G21, G20
  • I used gel pens to make dots on wings and color in the crowns on the girl and bunny heads.  I also used a Wink of Stella glitter pen to go over the wings.

After I colored her in, I cut her out from a circle stitched scallop die and then sponged around the image with a cloud stencil and distress ink.  I also sponged around the edges of the scallop circle with another color of distress ink and mounted her over the tag with a piece of craft foam behind her.

Vicki-PC Fairy Princess Bunny Tag-otherside

So, when you flip the tag over, you can see that I’ve made a little pocket with the same papers I’ve used on the front of the tag.  I thought this would be a cute way to give out a gift card to your “Fairy Princess”.  The tag happens to be the perfect size for adding a pocket for a gift card to fit into.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my little tag creation today!

Flying Dragon for 2 Crafty Critter Crazies

Hello friends!  Welcome to May!  Yay!  I’m so happy that my flowers are finally up and blooming!  It always brings a smile to face when I see the colorful blooms!

Today is the 1st of the month which also means the start of a new monthly challenge over the 2 Crafty Critter Crazies challenge blog!  All you have to remember is that you need to use a critter somewhere on your creation…that’s it!  The sponsor we have for this month is Fabrika Fantasy:

Vicki-2CCCMay

I have used this adorable digital image kindly provided to us from our sponsor called Flying Elf.  I love how that dragon is looking up at her! 🙂

After coloring her in, I’ve taken a cloud stencil and sponged in some clouds behind her to give the appearance of being in the air!  I’ve used the ink foam blending tool and distress inks for that.  I then cut out the image panel with a cross-stitch rectangle die from Lawn Fawn and then used a cloud border die also from LF to cut out along the bottom that also adds to the “cloudy” feel of the design.  I stamped a sentiment from a My Favorite Things stamp set.

I wanted to add a “magical” element to my design, so I found some really cool cosmos looking papers from my stash and added that as a layer underneath the image panel which I popped up a bit with foam tape.  I then added a purple shimmer ribbon with a bow around the bottom portion and layered it over a piece of gold mirror cardstock and then an additional piece of black cardstock that was layered over a white A2 sized top folding card base.  Lastly, I added some black pearls in the upper right of the image panel.

Vicki-2CCCMay-close

Here you can see a closer view of the coloring I did on the image.  I’ve colored it in with my Copic markers.  Then on her belt, the trim on her boot and the middle of the dragon bridle, I colored those in with a gold gel pen.  Such a cute image!
