Vicki-CIC500-Day11-RachelVassDesigns

I have the gorgeous Sunshine Daisies digital set for my design here by printing the image along with the sentiment that came with the set on a piece of Bristol watercolor paper.  I remember hubby brightening up my day a while back with some very pretty colorful rainbow of daisy flowers he brought home, so I based my colors that way.

I’ve used my watercolor markers and waterbrush to color the image with and then I took some yellow sparkle AquaPigment along with some Cream Grey Aquapigment from Brutus Monroe to splatter over top of the design before I cut it out with a Wonky Stitch rectangle die from MFT.

I layered this panel over an A2 top folding Soft Suede card base and finifhed it off with some clear sparkle sequins that I added some yellow Stickles to the centers.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my watercolor rainbow daisies today!  Thank you for stopping in to check my post today!  See you tomorrow!

{Cupcake Inspirations} Color Challenge Reminder

Hello there friends!  Hoping you’ve had a wonderful weekend!  It’s gotten pretty warm again over my way after enjoying the slightly cooler and beautiful weather for a while!  I’ve been enjoying the flowers while they’re still around!

I’m sharing some more inspiration with you today for a reminder on our current color challenge for {Cupcake Inspirations}, so if you haven’t played along with us yet, you still have another week to join us!

CIC498
Here’s the color theme for the current challenge

For some reason this color challenge still had me thinking of daisy flowers…so I went with that again for my design this week as well:

Vicki-CIC498-week2

I’ve pulled out a Pink and Main stamp set called Daisy Bugs and colored up the bundle of flowers image with Copic markers and then used the coordinating dies to cu it out with which was popped up over my design with foam tape.

I used the sentiment from the same stamp set as well and white heat embossed it over Navy cardstock and used the coordinating die to cut that out with as well which was glued over the card.

The yellow decorative papers were pulled out from my older Stampin’ Up! stash as I thought it fit with the theme and I was super happy to use some more papers up!  I’ve used a stitched circle die to cut out the white layer behind the flowers and then another fancy circle die from Gina Marie cut out with Navy to layer behind that as well.  I also die cut a border strip with a Crafter’s Companion die to place across my design and I wrapped some stitched navy ribbon (SU!) over it before attaching to the design.

I glued the bow over top of the circle image panel and then I used a navy marker to create the stitch lines around the edges to finish it off.

Vicki-CIC498-week2-close

Here’s a closer look at the flowers popped up on the design.  You can see in the centers of the flowers that I’ve added some glossy accents.

I think it really makes the flowers pop off the design!

Vicki-CIC498-week2-flat

I hope you’ve enjoyed my card today and has brought you some inspiration to play with the colors for this challenge so you can join with us!

Please be sure to check out the {Cupcake Inspirations} blog for more inspiration from the rest of the team as well!

Thanks so much for joining me here today and I’ll see you again soon!

It’s a Color Challenge for {Cupcake Inspirations}

Hello friends!  Hope you’ve had a great weekend and enjoying your Summer so far!

Today starts up a brand new challenge over at {Cupcake Inspirations} and this time we have a fun color challenge for you to try out:

CIC498

What a pretty looking cupcake photo to go along with it too!  Can’t wait to see your white, blue and yellow creations in the gallery!😀

Vicki-CIC498-week1

When I saw this challenge, the first thing that went through my mind was this unique and fun bicycle image from the Blooming Bicycle stamp set.

I left the “wheels” white for daisies and colored the rest in blues and yellows with Copic markers, fussy cut it out and popped it up with foam tape over the sponged cloudy background.  I cut that panel with a stitched rectangle die, layered it over a piece of yellow cardstock and used some pretty daisy papers from my stash for the background. I’ve also used these papers for the strip on the front and stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set with navy ink. I’ve mounted these layers over an A2 sized top folding navy blue card base.  (I followed a sketch design for a challenge, see below.)

The flower from my stash was actually a bright turquoise color, but I’ve used some white gesso and painted over it.  I’ve also taken some crackle paint and went over it along with some sparkly white paint and went over the crackle with that.  (I’ve always hoarded my paper flowers because I believe you can always change the colors for your project.)  I’ve added some yellow ribbon around the strip and added a blue button and yellow bow with the ribbon over the flower to finish it off.

Vicki-CIC498-week1-close

Here’s a closer view of the bicycle colored in as well as the details of the painted flower.

I colored parts of the bike in blue colors and then left some areas on the bike that I thought would be metal and colored those areas with a clear metallic gel pen.  I popped up the bike with foam tape and left it sticking off the edges to make it look like it’s ready to get on for a ride!

You can really see the shimmer over the flower with the Lumiere acrylic paint I’ve used…love that stuff!  (The white flowers in my photo props I felt weren’t “daisy” looking enough, so I opted to paint over a colored one with longer petals.  I’m silly like that😉!)

Vicki-CIC498-week1-flat

Well I don’t know how you feel about this color combo, but it really makes me feel happy and so I thought that the sentiment was just perfect for this one!

Really hope you can join along with us for this color challenge!  Please be sure to stop by the {Cupcake Inspirations} Challenge Blog to see all the inspiration and enter your project!  Hope you’ve been inspired by my card today!  See you soon!

{Cupcake Inspirations} Reminder!

Hello there friends!  Hoping that you had a fabulous weekend!  Alhtough it has been really hot over my way lately, I enjoyed spending a bit of time with hubby going out for a cold Starbucks frozen treat and time at the park.  What is something that you enjoy as part of your Summers?  In this crazy time right now, it seems we’re having to come up with different situations than we have in the past.

CIC497

Today I’m sharing with you another project and reminder for our current {Cupcake Inspirations} challenge…have you joined in the fun with us yet?!  Check out the original post and where to add your creation by CLICKING HERE.

Vicki-CIC497-week2

For my card here, I’ve pulled out another Stampin’ Up! set that has been a favorite of mine and I think it’s from a previous year Sale-a-bration set along with the embossing folder in the background behind it.  The stamp set is called “Blossoming Basket”.

I have used the 3D “basket weave” embossing folder to emboss the white background, but before putting it through the embossing machine, I’ve taken an ink pad and inked up the folder to add the color to the background design.

I’ve also taken the “Hardwood” background stamp from Stampin’ Up! and inked it up over a piece of kraft cardstock and then used some brown ink around the edges of it and a cut strip for the bottom portion of my card to create the table area for the basket to set on.  The sentiment as well as the banner strip and the scallop kraft layer were from My Favorite Things products and then I layered everything over an A2 sized top folding yellow card base.

Vicki-CIC497-week2close

Here’s a closer look at the image and how I’ve colored it in with my Copic markers.

I ended up fussy cutting out the images with my scissors and attaching them to the card design.  I stamped the basket image a couple of different times and cut out extra flowers to place next to the basket and another set of flowers were popped up over the original image with foam tape.  I only used glue in the center of the butterfly to lift up the wings.

I added a twine bow to the basket along with some pearls in the center of the flowers along with the top corner of the design.

Vicki-CIC497-week2flat

I hope you’ve been inspired by my creation today in some way and that you are inspired to pull out your flowers and pearls and/or sequins to play along with us too!

There have been some really amazing beauties entered so far and I look forward to seeing some more this week too!  So check it out here – CIC497 (And don’t forget that we’re partnering with the team over at Double Trouble papercrafting challenge as well!)

Crafty Chefs Group and Sympathy

Hello friends!  I know I’ve said this before, but it seems that I don’t ever have a sympathy card on hand when one is needed, so this time as I was making one because I needed it, I’ve also created an additional to have in my stash.

I have also just joined with some fellow crafty friends who started a sort of “challenge group” and I think we dubbed ourselves the “Crafty Chefs” simply because our challenges consist of “recipes” to follow of “MUST DO” and another list of “CAN DO” items to follow when making our projects and we each take turns being the “top head chef” in charge of making the recipes or lists.  It’s just something non-pressure and just for fun which I think is fabulous as it helps me to use up my expansive crafty stash and join my fellow friends in paper crafting which we all have in common and love to do!😀

Vicki-PaintchipSympathy

Here’s the sympathy card that I’ve come up with for our July’s Crafty Chefs Group Challenge!  The July challenge is as follows:

MUST DO:

  1.  monochromatic
  2. sentiment as focal point
  3. paint chips
  4. decorative papers

CAN DO: (items that are optional to add)

  1.  die cut
  2. favorite color
  3. summer fruits

When I saw the paint chips on the list, it immediately made me think of this technique with the wavy die cut along the edge of the design over a card and I think I had done it before, but it had been a long time ago.  So with the decortive papers in mind, I went through my stash to find different ones in similar monochromatic color and the most I had was the yellow color.  I love yellow, but if you know me, then you know purple is my favorite color…so I didn’t do that one or the summer fruits from the list..but the MUST DO are all included!

Vicki-PaintchipSympathy-close

I die cut the word for the focal point of my design with some of the pattern papers that I’ve used and cut several to stack on each other. I also die cut a butterfly to add as an accent along with the stitched wave border die to cut my edge with.  I also took the small word stamped with yellow ink over white and die cut it with a banner die to place over the design and then the panel was mounted over a yellow A2 sized top folding card base and finished with clear sequins that were filled with glitter glue.

Vicki-PaintchipSympathy-flat

I‘m really happy how it turned out and sort of challenged myelf to make it a sympathy card.  It had it’s twists and turns to complete each thing on my list, but worth the thought process to figure out!  I’m glad I had this challenge!  Hope you enjoyed it as well!

Vicki-SUsympathy

Here’s the sympathy card that I had made and actually hand delivered in person so I know they’ve already received it.

My thought on this one was the card was for females and I based my design on the flowers that I also gave to the recipient which had pinks in the mix along with the base of the lantern being white with the candle.

Vicki-SUsympathy-close

I went through my stash of floral stamps and have always loved this one from Stampin’ Up! which was stamped in black ink over white.  I used some watercolor to just color in one of the flowers within the image.  I used a piece of vellum to silver heat emboss the sentiment which was wrapped around the panel.  I also took some silver shimmer paint that was watered down and splattered over top.

Vicki-SUsympathy-flat

I die cut the panel, layered it over a piece of silver foil cardstock and then another piece of pink cardstock that was mounted onto an A2 sized white top folding card base.  Lastly, I’ve added some silver sequins to finish it off.

Thanks so much for stopping in today my friends!  I hope you’ve gotten some inspiration from my projects and I’ll be seeing you again soon!!

Here’s my take on the challenge:

Vicki-CIC497

I was really inspired with the flowers and pearl theme and I’ve been wanting to play around with a past card kit I had to color with pencils, which I hardly ever do!

The flower images come from the Simon Says Stamp Stronger Together stamp set and kit.  The kit had some colored pencils with it that I used to color the image and then I just used some dies from my stash to add the layers.  I took an additional floral image from the set and white ink to stamp the background and swiped the ink pad around the edges.

To fit with the challenge theme, I thought it would be fun to add several sizes of pearls along the edges of the oval panel.

Vicki-CIC497-close

Here’s a closer view of the coloring on the flowers.  I’ve also taken a sentiment from the stamp set and inked it up with some eggplant ink using my MISTI tool.  I inked it up again with some embossing ink and then added some clear sparkle EP over top of it to heat set.  The sparkle shows up so much better in person, of course!  I cut it out with my scissors and popped it up over the image with foam tape.

Vicki-CIC497-flat

Really hope that you’ve been inspired with my creation today and that you’ll hop on over to the {Cupcake Inspirations} Challenge and play along with us!  We look forward to seeing what you come up with using this theme!

I will be back next week with more inspiration for this challenge!  Thanks so much for dropping by!

Pink Floral Sympathy

Hello friends! Welcome to June! We’ve certainly started off our June with hot temps! Trying to stay cool in the air condition and have some crafty time! How about you?

Unfortunately, it was time again that I needed another sympathy card and I don’t have any in my stash, so I’ve come up with one to send to the family of my GREAT aunt! She was always so great about sending me cards on my birthday even as she got older and it always made me smile!

So this is my final tribute to Aunt Rosella…RIP sweet lady.

I saw a couple of challenges going on and they actually inspired me to pull out an older stamp set that I’ve had and hadn’t used it but a couple of times and I think it’s really pretty. I’ve used the Beautiful Blossoms stamp set from Newton’s Nook for my card here.

I’ve used a sketch challenge to help me with the placement of the images and how I was going to layout the design. I’ve used a vanilla top folding A2 sized card base, die cut a scallop rectangle and then layered over another vanilla piece that was cut with a stitched rectangle die. I took a strip of pink cardstock and stamped the floral images over it with VersaMark ink and attached that along with the two square panels layered with some scalloped die cut square in black. Those vanilla panels were sponged along the edges with pink ink.

I took the floral images, stamped them over another piece of vanilla cardstock with some alcohol marker friendly ink and colored them in with my Copics. They were cut out with the coordinating die cut set. I used some foam tape to pop them up over the squares.

Upon closer view, you can see how I’ve done the sentiment here by heat embossing it over a piece of vellum with some Raven Sparkle EP and then fussy cutting it out. I used my Xyron matchine to make a sticker out of it and then I took the “sympathy” stamp from the Newton’s Nook “Super Sentimental” (No longer available) and inked it with the black ink under the vellum sentiment.

Of course it’s hard to see the shimmer over the flowers, but I’ve covered them some Spectrum Noir glitter brush pen and then lastly, I’ve added some clear sparkling sequins.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my sympathy card today and a reminder to all of us card makers to remember to build a small stash of these type of cards to have on hand. It’s something that I really need to do and always forget about doing it ahead of time.

I have more things that I’ve been working on coming soon, so I hope you’ll stop by again! Have a great day!😊

Challenges I’d like to enter this card for:

  1. Newton’s Nook Inky Paws Challenge – Flowers

2. {Cupcake Inspirations} – CIC494 Color Challenge: Pink, Black and Cream

3. Sunday Stamps – SSC232 Sketch “Getting Squared”

Bright Floral AJ Fun🌸

Hello friends! We’re now on Friday and the last one of the month at that! Summer is now coming at us! I always look forward to being outdoors and spending time in the sun and enjoying the flowers…how about you?

Speaking of flowers, I wanted to share an Art Journal page that I had completed from a class that I took in March. It was really fun as I haven’t done any AJ pages at all since the previous blog platform that I was on! I remember that I had made several of them and was going to put them all together to make my own book. This process really made me remember how much I’ve missed doing it:

Doodling is not something that I’ve ever felt really comfortable with, so when the class offered up a way to trace a basic flower pattern, I did that. However, with all of the “lines” you can see within those flowers and me extending the petals and such, you can see that I really got into the doodling process once I got going that is! LOL!

First, I wanted to make sure that this AJ page had the binder holes punched in them to add to my book, so I did that with a 9″ x 6″ piece of watercolor paper (I cut one of the 9″ x 12″ pieces in half to get two AJ pages) and then I took my Zig Kurtake Tambi watercolor set and a big brush to watercolor over the paper.

This is where I traced the basic flower pattern (from class) over the dried piece. From there, I took some black gesso and painted the background around the flowers. This REALLY made the colors pop! This is where I took my Micron pens and white gel pen to really doodle around the flowers.

I even took a few sentiment stamps from the Impression Obsession Words For Art and stamped on a couple of the petals with Archival Jet Black ink.

I think it’s just one of those things you start doing and then don’t know when to stop the doodling! It was just tons of fun and glad that I was brave enough to try it AND get going on some AJ pages!

I hope you’ve enjoyed it too and I hope to do more! Lots of fun things coming, so I will be seeing you soon my friends!!😉 Thanks for dropping in!

Challenges:

  1. Art Journal Journey – Flowers
  2. Creativ Fusions Arts & Crafts – #17 Anything Goes
  3. Creative Artiste – #60 Anything Mixed Media
  4. The Artistic Stamper – Journaling + stamping

Faux Emboss With a Stamp!😮

Hello there friends!  Hoping you had a wonderful weekend and a fabulous Mother’s Day as well!  I had a wonderful day with flowers delivered to me and wonderful phone messages as well as some safe social distancing with my own mom.  It was great to actually “see” her as I haven’t been able to since this “shelter in place” had started.

Today I wanted to share a couple of cards that I had made participating in the “Spring Card Camp” classes from Online Card Classes. (It started April 11 and ran through the end of April.)  Although we are now on a separate Part 2 Spring Card Camp, I have enjoyed the classes each day and I thought I’d just take my time and enjoy everything.  So there may be posts spread across time as I go.  I just like to take my time and actually enjoy the process rather than hurry up and run right through it.  I feel this helps me to fully understand what I’m doing and what products I’ve used, take notes, etc.

SPRSCC2020-participant

The first class was taught from Jennifer McGuire as she showed us how to use a stamp and create our own embossing folder to make an impression with it!!  Something that I had not heard of before, so this was fun to try out:

Vicki-BMKindFloral-fauxemboss

So the idea of each class is to pretty much get a “two for one” type of design and stretch your supplies and design concept so that it makes it easier to create multiple cards at a time, which is really great right now as I seem to be making more cards and donating extra cards that I normally wouldn’t be doing at this time of the year.  (I also actually thought this could be applied towards Christmas making time as well…which I will be keeping in mind!)

I started with this panel first as this was my piece that created the faux embossng folder:

Vicki-BMKindFloral-FE

I decided to use this gorgeous large image from the Kind Floral stamp set to create my “faux embossing” piece with.  This image was heat set several times with white EP.   All of the cards I made including the sentiments were used with this same stamp set.

After using it for my “faux embossing” on my other cards shown below, I went back to it and finished it on a card by using some blending brushes and ink to color in the panel.  I took a strip of black cardstock and white heat embossed the sentiment over it and then layered it onto a white A2 side folding card base.  I finished it off with some colored bubble drops and Stickles glitter drops.

Vicki-BMKindFloral-FE1

Here’s a closer view of the white heat embossing I did on this panel with the image.  It’s very thick as I had to build up layers to create a faux embossing folder to get a good impression with it.  (See below)

Vicki-BMKindFloral-FE2

For my first card using the “Faux Embossing” piece, I took a sheet of pink cardstock and made the impression into it.  You can see it in the background.  For this panel I used the negative side of it and then sponged some darker pink ink over top of it so that you can really see the impression from the image.  I used a Wonky Stitched Rectangle die to cut it out with and layered it over a piece of kraft Cardstock.  This was attached to a top folded A2 sized white card base.

I took another sentiment from the same stamp set as above and heat embossed it with Gilded EP.  I sponged some more pink ink around the edges of this panel and layered it over another piece of kraft CS.  I popped it up with foam tape over some die cut flowers from vellum along with a strip of gold mirror cardstock and finished it off with some gold sequins.

Vicki-BMKindFloral-FE2a

Here’s a closer view at the texture in the background from the faux embossed piece.

I thought this gave a subtle but soft and pretty look to the design.  Also, that sentiment could not be at a more perfect time right now, don’t you think?

Vicki-BMKindFloral-FE3

And for my last card, I made the faux embossed background using some more kraft CS.  This image I used the positive side and ran some distress ink over the raised areas to bring it out more.  I took a darker brown ink to go around the edges.

I stamped a sentiment from the same stamp set with brown ink, layered with some Copper Glitter paper and then cut a piece of Macchiato CS from a scalloped stitched square die that was also used for the A2 Sized top folding card base, and popped up the sentiment panel with foam tape.

I layered the embossed background piece over a vanilla cardstock layer that was cut with a scalloped stitched rectangle die and then I wrapped some silk ribbon with a bow around it before placing the sentiment panel over it.  I attached the flower and the sequins to the design and finished it off with some Nuvo Honey Gold Glitter Drops.

Vicki-BMKindFloral-FE3a

Here’s a closer look at not only the texture from the embossed background piece, but I also took some Shimmer Spray and covered the background with it.  You can sort of see the beautiful shimmer over it…and it really looks incredible in person.

Hope you’ve enjoyed what I’ve learned and created for class!  Thanks for dropping in with me today!  There will be more things I have to share with you coming up, so I’ll see you soon!!

Full Bloom Rainbow

Hello friends!  I hope you’re having a great week so far!  I’m wondering if this cold weather has me feeling this way lately, but I’m seriously lacking in creativity and just have misplaced my MOJO lately!  If you’ve found it, please let me know! LOL!

In the meantime, I seriously needed to create a rainbow in my life and found that a young lady certainly was in need of a smile sent her way as well so I thought I would do just that:

Vicki-PinkMainCK-MMTPT604

I had received my Pink and Main Crafty Courtyard Card Kit and really loved the happy colors and pretty blooms in the stamp set and so I started out using the stencil with rainbow order inks for the background!

I’ve also used the same color of Distress Oxide inks to do the stamping on the tag and envelope as well.  I absolutely love the tag die set was inclued with the kit which I’ve used for the main focus of my card.  I always want to add just a bit of black to my rainbow colors, so I decided to white heat emboss the sentiment from the stamp set and then used one of the tag die elements to cut it out with and pop up over the bottom of the tag.

I’ve also used the ribbon and enamel dots included in the kit to finish it off.  (The floral sequins used for the photo prop were also included in the kit.  LOL!)

Vicki-PinkMainCK-MMTPT604-close

Here’s a closer look at the details in the tag.  For the black border around the tag, I just cut a piece down to size and then cut off the edges with my scissors to match up with the tag.  The scallop tag behind it was cut with the paper and die from the kit.  I used some circle punches to create the black re-enforcer and then I tied the ribbon together with some black twine from my own stash and topped the center with an enamel dot from the kit.

Vicki-PinkMainCK-MMTPT604-flat

This card has now been sent along to a young lady that is currently in the hospital dealing with cancer treatments (teapotters from SCS) and really needs some cheerful happy colors, so I hope that this will help fill her day with some cheer.

Hoping that this card has also sent some feelings of cheer today your way as well!  Thanks so much for stopping in today friends and I’ll see you soon! 🙂
