If you’ve been following me for while, then  you know how much I love to ink blend!  It’s something that is fun to do and I’m always amazed at the finished colors!  I want you to get the same satisfaction when you do it too, so I thought that would make a fun photo tutorial for my guest POTW post!

There is just something about this scene that makes me feel happy and relaxed!  So of course that sentiment goes just perfectly with it!  This sentiment/saying is one of my all time favorites and I was thrilled to use it for this design!

I’ve used the “Canoeing” (2905-G) along with the “Mountain Vista” (629-I)  From Repeat Impressions for the image stamping over the ink blended scene.  CLICK HERE to purchase stamps from the “Scenic” category…just scroll down to see them all!  I’ve also used the “Life is not…” (6113-K) sentiment from Repeat Impressions that was white heat embossed over the black banner on the scene.  CLICK HERE to purchase that one.

Here’s a closer look at the details in this card with how I went about creating it.  You can see the different blended colors in both the water and sky.  The setting sun was colored in with a glitter gel pen which created some shimmer to it.  The white gel pen highlighted details in the water.

Really had fun creating this scene with these stamps which were just perfect for an ink blended background!  I thought this would make for a wonderful retirement card!   If you want to create one of these type of cards yourself, please be sure to check out the step-by-step tutorial over at the Repeat Impressions Blog to see how I went about doing this!

I loved that sentiment stamp so much, that I just couldn’t help but create one more card using it again with another ink blended design:

Really LOVE how this one turned out!

What’s fun about ink blending is all of the different color combinations you can play with and blend together for different looks!  This time, I’ve used different colors and started my ink blending in the center.  I’ve also used a die to cut out the center of the ink blended panel, heat emboss the sentiment over it, layer with a piece of black cardstock behind it, and pop it up over the rest of the ink blended background.  So eventhough it was cut out in the center, it’s a continuous ink blended design!

On this ink blended panel, I’ve used some Shimmer Spray over it which gives it a really pretty shimmer with a bit of a “water dropplet” effect as the Distress Oxide Inks react to water/liquids.  I think this turned out really cool as it gives it sort of a “Bokeh Effect”.

Before I cut out the center of the ink blended panel, I’ve used the “Flower Power Frame” (10202-Q) to stamp in black ink at the top and bottom of the panel.  (CLICK HERE to view/purchase stamp from Repeat Impressions.)  You can see that part of the stamped image was die cut on the sentiment panel.  I colored the centers of the flowers with a yellow glitter gel pen for added detail.

To add to the look, I thought it needed some sparkling clear sequins to finish it off!

Coming Up Flowers at Cute Card Thursday

Hello friends!  Welcome to Thursday!  We are already near Easter this weekend and it’s a great time to be thinking about flowers!  This is the new challenge this week over at Cute Card Thursday, so I hope you can join in the floral fun with us!

I decided to pull out some stamps that I received a few months ago by Repeat Impressions from a challenge win because they are ALL floral themed and I thought it would be perfect to work with for the challenge:

To help with my design, I’ve used the tic-tac-toe board from the Repeat Impressions challenge.  (see below).  I have used the Flower Power Background stamp and stamped it with white ink over a piece of vellum and then mounted it over a light purple piece of cardstock so that it was a bit more subtle looking, but yet still had the floral pattern.

I’ve also taken one of the stamps from the Beautiful Days Collection called “Daisies & Butterfly” and stamped it with water proof ink over a piece of Bristol smooth watercolor cardstock.  After coloring it, I fussy cut the image and then die cut a scallop square layer to place behind it and then cut another layer of black cardstock to layer behind that.  I thought it really brought out the details of the image.  The butterfly was popped up with some foam squares.

Lastly, I’ve stamped a sentiment, did some paper piercing with a tool pick around the corners of the vellum layer and around the image layer.  All of these layers were mounted over an A2 sized top folding white card base.  I then took some clear “dew drops” and attached them over the front of the card.

Here’s a closer view of the watercolor I’ve done on the image.  I’ve used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and occasional help with a water brush to blend or soften up the colors as needed.  Hard to see, of course, but I’ve taken a glitter brush pen and went over the wings on the butterfly.  You can also see the details of the paper piercing that I’ve done on the vellum.

I noticed that after I had stamped the sentiment with black ink, the white ink from the vellum showed through a bit.  I was going to layer something over it, but decided that I actually liked it that way, so left it.

I’m always out of sympathy cards when I need one, so this will be a nice one to have on hand for that.
